Are these people 5 years old? They act like their $5 CCFLs they shoved in their Macs are nuclear reactors. How lame. (http://www.modyourmac.com/ourmods.html)

Why do you care? Its their computer, not yours.

no kidding. lighten up buddy :) some people really like modding computers. and i must say that modding something as pretty as a mac is hard to do. apple spent a lot of time moving things in just the right places to make everything neat and clean. with that, it makes it even more difficult to mod.

All they are is Neon lights and paint jobs.
Real modding requires and power supplies, round cables, huge cooling solutions so overclocking can be undertaken, and last but not least, a Hack Saw.
Yes, a hack saw, to cut in new fan ports or that second CD bay you've always wanted in your G5.

i can't stand modding. i mean on a PC, why not, they're just crappy boxes that n thought went into. but Macs have a design that i hate seeing screwed up. To me, it's like a personal insult to Ives every time someone cuts up their Mac to put some ugly-ass childish sophomoric neon lights or bad metallic pimped-out paint on it.
But, just my opinion :)

I mod my PeeCee, but wouldn't dare touch my mac. Granted, my mac is an incredible piece of engineering and the PeeCee is a piece of crap put together by myself. But I do think the paint jobs are kinda sweet. But whatever... To each his/her own!!!

The title
"Worst thing to do to a Mac" is misleading ... i was waiting for something to blow up or be dropped, or whatever
It's just a paint job ...
It's like the kids that add neons and body kits, and 10 foot formula one spoilers, and redwood sized exhaust tips
Maybe tasteless ... but people like it, whatever

It just reminds me of the people who mod their Hondas. It's not something that I do, but to each their own. If they love their computers, how the creativity, and they want to express themselves, I say let them, it's better on their desk than spray paint and graffiti all over the streets.

I am installing Xenon headlights on my G5 to beat those guys... hehehe
I agree with original poster. The G5 deserves a little more respect.

Well I love the G5 with the green cathodes! That's what I'd want my G5 to look like (if I had one that is :()...or maybe a blue cathode, very cool...:D
Coopdog will love my PC :p (http://homepage.mac.com/edesignuk/images/newpc2.jpg)

You mean a dremmel ;) I can't imagine trying to make some sort of precise cut-out with a hack saw.

The funniest mod I've ever seen was someone who installed a working PC inside a Millenium Falcon model, amazing work!

I saw somewhere online where a guy made a PowerMac pyramid with black and blue lighting and strobes inside. It was pretty insane.

and here i thought this was gonna be a thread about trading in macs for Dells running Windows XP. now thats the worst thing you can do to your Mac. imagine the depression the poor little guy would have the rest of his life. he'd beg to modded because at least it would be attention.

The macs don't need to be modded. They already look great. The designers at apple do a good job so there is no reason to change what they have done. With pcs on the other hand 50% of them look ugly as ******. The pc designs are starting to look better now though.

I noticed a couple of months ago that you can actually go to CompUSA and buy "modded" computers right off the shelf. I at first just noticed a lot of people with what I thought were modded computers with clear covers and neons all over, but then one day I was at CompUSA to buy Age of Empires II and saw a whole row of these computers that were basically black boxes with a fiberglass panel and blue, red, or green neons inside.

I've been waiting to see a new iMac base painted some creative way, or even as a bowling ball cut in half. Art takes so many forms.

Cosmetic mods are cool in my book. If other people don't like the new look, tough. It's your computer. Do whatever you want to do with it. I am rather surprised that more Mac owners don't express their creativity in this way. Sure, they look good out of the box - but everyone else who bought one has one that looks the same. If you think that you could do a better mod than these guys did, prove it. Show us some pictures of the final product. I would actually be very interested in seeing what some Mac users who are professional artists could come up with.
