Am I the only one who hates having bad icons on my springboard?

I do too, the only apps I'll allow on first page are ones with nice, dark, unobtrusive icons. The second page is for ones that I need but don't like to look at, Stocks, Weather, facebook, address book, NetShare, super monkey ball

I won't download it if it looks ugly. Put me on this list.

Would you all skip downloading my apps because of their icons?

Depends how good the app is. :rolleyes:

Yep, I do it too. There are different kinds of "ugly" though. There's "primitive" ugly, where I assume the developer didn't put any more thought into the app than they put into the icon. Then there's "artful -- but ugly", where there's more thought put into it, but it doesn't looks sexy.
One think I don't like is when I buy/download an app with one icon, and then the developer changes the icon for the worse in a subsequent update. This has happened with a couple of Sudoku games I got. I really hate when they add a sort of banner ad to it like "Now with improved texture!"
I wonder if there are any apps where the icon is just a solid color with no markings? Black or white would be good. Clear, where it just looks like an empty space on the iPhone, would be cool!

I will, if you are capable to write an app like this two, you should be able to create nice ICONS.

i hate ugly icons........and Enigmo is the winner for that!
however, you can't judge an app by it's icon. Enigmo is awesome, but the icon sucks.

It depends. If its really ugly then yeah. But I try not to judge an app by its icon but by what its macworld rating is haha

I could care less what the icon looks like, it is how good the app is that determines whether or not I download and keep it.

One of the characteristic of a good application is a good interface design and the icon is an integral part of the interface so the two go hand in hand. Obviously if an application had a nice icon but didn't function properly it would be a bad application. However, if an application is good it probably will have (or in fact maybe it must have) a good icon for the sake of consistency within the offering.

I agree completely.

I suffer from this too. As they say, dress for success. A quality app should be dressed with a quality icon.

I can't stand an app with an ugly icon or an ugly UI. I don't care how intuitive and useful it is, if it doesn't look decent I'm out.

It doesn't bother me too much. Being able to change icons would be nice, but I doubt it would ever happen.
What I hate is developers adding their own rounded corners and "button" effects. There's no need when the iPhone does it for them.
I could care less
If I see that one more time I think I'll explode. It's couldn't! Couldn't care less! If you could care less, you must care. Gr.
Pet hate. Sorry. :p

Since the icon has no effect on the functionality of the app, I don't give much thought about what the icon looks like.

Nah, I like your app icons, I think the light show one could be be a little simpler though. Maybe lose the spot lights.

Yeah because being a programmer makes you automatically a good graphic designer. :rolleyes:

SEGA - "We had to actually fly in an extra artist to start scaling up the quality of the visuals to match what the output was capable of giving us."
Programmer != Graphic Artist
Code != Photoshop/3D Rendering
How something works != How something looks
That is all.

When someone is smart, they hire a graphic designer to make the icon. I think the icon should match the quality of the App.... for the most part, it seems like you can judge an App by the icon. Usually the apps with the crappy icons also have a crappy looking interface.
I think Apple should have made it so that you could get info on the App in iTunes and change the icon there. It could be just like it is on the Mac... when you delete the custom icon, the real icon is still preserved under it.
