I bought an iMac a year and a half ago and my hard drive is full of music, movies, documents etc... I would like to have additional hard drive space, but I don't feel like buying a new mac.
Is there a way to replace my current hard drive with a new drive with more space? Or would you recommend buying an external hard drive? I probably could just delete movies and music I don't use but that isn't any fun :D

External terabytes are cheap now, and it'd be a lot easier to get a FireWire 800 external HDD than to open your iMac and mess around.

Yes the internal HDD can be replaced. While not technically difficult for someone that has assembled a few computers, a novice will most likely feel very challenged. You'll have to make the call on your skill level. There are a few videos and step by step instructions on the web to perform the task.
A better solution would be to get an external firewire 800 HDD.

As others have said just buy a 1tb+ external FW HD.

Western Digital My Book Studio Edition (http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=374) (their only drive w/ FW 800): 299.99 USD
1 TB drives (no enclosure) on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010150014+103530090&name=800GB+and+higher): just buy a firewire 800 enclosure for it (here's some on Newegg that the search "firewire 800 enclosure (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=firewire+800+enclosure&x=0&y=0)" yielded)
