I have a Canon HF10 like a few people on this forum and was wondering about your experience with exporting your end-result. I am importing FXP footage with iMovie 08 as 1080i. iMovie does indicate a warning for HD playback during import but I think this is based on the MacMini model I have rather that my personal upgrade to 2GB RAM, 2.16GHZ Core 2 Duo, Leopard.
I would like to create two outputs:
1) For best playback on the Apple TV
2) Best quality for storage
1) I find the default iMovie export for AppleTV very diaspointing so I tried export to MP4 via Quicktime by setting framerate to current, 5120kps, AAC audio, etc. and still get missing frames on the AppleTV but not on the Mac. Anybody willing to post there exact settings or recommend an alternative editor?
2) For storing the movie for best quality, I am dissapointed that the Mac codec AIC does not support Full HD, so I just copy the contents of the HF10 to my hardrive for future editing until Apple is ready (see also https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/514751/). I must admit that playback from the HF10 directly to my Full HD TV is stunning compared to playback on the imported footage, there seems to be a huge loss during import by using AIC format.
