creating 16x16 .ico file

I need to create a favicon for my site but don't know which program to do this in..what program can I do this with? Or is there anyway I can convert a jpg/gif/png to .ico? :confused:

Any1 have any ideas?

Please check out http://www.favicon.cc/ and you can import and create using their simple online tools. Suuuuuper cool.

You can do it with Icon Composer, installed with the Leopard or Tiger development tools. It can be found at Macintosh HD/Developer/Applications/Utilities/Icon Composer. It gives you a lot of control/options.

Or you could use Dynamic Drive's online generator found at:

There is a difference between Mac icons and the specific format of a favicon (.ico) - are you sure the utility creates .ico?

Nope. Not sure. In fact, I may be remembering using it to make system icons (icns) and not favicon.ico's. Not sure - but I just checked it out and couldn't figure out how I would have done it before, so I could just be wrong.

I've used Gimp to create ico files for my site.
