Does anyone have experience with such drives, I'm looking for something reliable

The verbatim firelite seems very reasonable but I can't find any benchmarks, can anyone bench theirs for me?

You might find it cheaper to get an external notebook enclosure + a notebook HD.

When I replaced the HD in my old PowerBook I dropped the old one into a Macally PHR-250CC.

Edit: If you do go this route, just make sure the drive and enclosure have the same interface (newer drives have SATA interfaces).

In the end I selected a Freecom ToughDrive, 250GB. It's a firewire drive and behaves impeccably.
