Quick question for any knowledgeable network people out there. I just want to know what happens if I plug in a 100Mbit device into my Gigabit switch alongside my 1000mbit computers. Is it like wireless LANs where the overall speed is reduced to the slowest device, or will I be able to communicate at gigabit speeds between the gigabit enabled devices? I just got a Vonage device so I would hate to see my throughput degraded because the adapter is not gigabit capable.

The hub should control each device to its maximum speed. For instance, if you have a 100mbit device, it will run at 100mbit. The 1000mbit devices will run at 1000mbit. And the 10mbit cable modem will run at 10mbit.....
