OK - there is a difference between postscript network printers and non-postscript ones -- because the printing system on OS X (CUPS) is based on postscript. Your printer isn't a postscript printer, so you need a CUPS-capable driver to use the CUPS-provided standard network protocols. HP doesn't provide CUPS-capable drivers for non-postscript printers.
You will have to use a third-party CUPS driver for your printer. I suggest hpijs + foomatic + ghostscript: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/macosx
When you come back with questions, tell us the details of how the printer is connected to the network, and what protocol you are using.
