Stream From Sleeping Computer?

When my computer is in sleep mode, none of the streaming content appears on my AppleTV. Is there a way to wake the computer from the AppleTV?

If not, how do y'all deal with this? Just set your computer to never sleep? Seems like a waste of energy and wear-n-tear for someone who has a computer that's a dedicated music server, and only watches the AppleTV for a few hours a couple times a week.

Unfortunately, if your Mac's asleep, you're out of luck. The AppleTV can't wake it. My Mac never sleeps, and runs 24/7 so this has not been an issue for me, but it would be nice if things like iTunes sharing or the AppleTV could wake it for access. Apparently Wake on LAN isn't something Apple has implemented very well. If they did maybe my Mac could get some rest.

or you can can hit shift+control+eject, it will only put your display to sleep...everything else is accessible, works like a charm...I only put my Imac to sleep at night...but when I go to work, or anything else I just hit those keys, this way my video podcasts get updated automatically

I am betting Apple makes a way - if one doens't already exist - to more easily wake your computer remotely, perhaps to even turn it on remotely. I base this both on the Apple TV question you raise and also on the possibility that future iPods will contain less content and simply stream from your home computer. In such a scenario, it seems Apple has to likewise give you the ability to turn on/wake up your computer remotely. The only remaining step after that will be for your computer to become self-aware; at that point, you will be in danger when you return home.

they're selling an app on itunes that allows you to wake your computer remotely from the iphone..pretty sweet
