put it to use! it's not the machine but what you do with it - i occasionally get drawn into just purchasing things and improving and end up doing nothing with it *looks over at guitar and wacom*. Sorry if this sounds like parenting (it's more as a reminder for myself tbh :P, but im still going to post it =) ).

Besides, we can't really recommend specific upgrades if we don't know your needs?

In general, RAM and the HDD are about the only two things you can change on a Mac Pro, since the CPUs are end-of-roadmap.

6-10GB of RAM and maybe one or two 1TB HDDs should be plenty. :)

like others said: RAM and fast HDD will be the only reasonable upgrades up to date. later on (next 15-24 months) you may want to purchase better GPU...

You might want to consider bumping your ramp to 8GB so all the slots are full, there are several test that seem to show having all the slots full works best.

There's also software that allows you to overclock your Mac Pro.... I'm not entirely familiar with it, but I'm sure someone here with a MP will link you :)

The download button is centered just above the first paragraph of text.

Is there a noticeable Differece between 8Gb and 16Gb:apple:

It's only going to be noticeable if you use huge Photoshop files or do very intensive video editing or something along those lines.

Added two 250GB and one 500GB drive I had from other machines and added
8 GB of OWC RAM.

I had upgraded the video card to the 8800 from the factory and also a 1TB HDD

That's it.

Fill up all ram slots with 1GB dimms or 2GB dimms. 4GB dimms are over kill. Hard drives for you files and maybe a 10K drive for a scratch drive.

St. Davids PA, outside Philadelphia. They have Lifetime and Buffalo, I'd go with Lifetime no question. 2 x 1GB 800Mhz is 249.99 (SKU#458554), 2 x 2GB is 359.99 (SKU#430587), and 2 x 4GB is $1149.99 (SKU#430595). If you wanted to go with Buffalo, their 2 x 1GB option is $199.99 (SKU#538827), and a 2 x 2GB that's $299.99 (SKU#538835).

Using these SKU's you CAN find these on the website, just throw the six digit number into the search bar on the upper right.

basically RAM is what you need the most, preferably 16gb of ram 8x2gb for 100% dual rank speed ofthe mac pro.
