Try re-downloading the restore files through iTunes, that has helped me in the past.

Please let me know anyone successfully jailbreaking 2.0.1 with this on a AT&T phone. I doubt that matters to much but just in case. Also, are you guys choosing to the activate tab when building the custom firmware. I am not being that I have a plan with AT&T and as the past manuals has said let iTunes do the activation. Looking forward to success stories!

I followed the tutorial here (http://www.multicellphone.com/iphone-20-jailbreak-guide-with-pwnage-tool-201/) using Pwnage 2.0.2 and the 2.0.1 firmware which can be found in user/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates. Be sure you have "iPhone1,2_2.0.1_5B108_Restore.ipsw" and not the older 2.0 firmware. If you don't have 2.0.1 yet, click restore and when the download begins, unplug your phone so it cannot restore your phone. Instead, the 2.0.1 firmware will be downloaded to the folder mentioned above.
So, DO NOT download either files (Pwnage or the firmware restore file) linked on that page. They are the older versions. I followed that tutorial with my 3G iPhone using the 2.0.1 firmware found on my Mac and Pwnage 2.0.2 found in this thread, NOT on that page. After restoring to the custom firmware, I chose to backup from a previous iPhone and I can confirm EVERYTHING works perfectly. I have a perfect signal... AT&T and WiFi. Both Cydia and Installer are completely functional... my Apple apps are installed... my notes were backed up. Everything works perfectly.

I didn't see any mention of this on the Dev Team blog, so I'll ask here:
Does anybody know if using this tool leaves the stock 3G baseband intact?
I know they'd said there would be a way to preserve the original baseband, to make unlocking easier when/if that ability is added to Pwnage Tool, but there's been no word yet on whether or not it's left along with Pwnage Tool 2.0.2.
For those who've done the jailbreak on a 3G phone, when you check your Modem Firmware (Settings>General>About), what does it say? My 3G is still stock and reads 01.45.00.

For those that have experienced Cydia problems (crashing on launch) I can confirm the Zippyshare DL works. (http://www4.zippyshare.com/v/73243631/file.html)
Not sure why, but after trying several builds in Simple and Expert mode with the Rapidshare DL, Cydia wouldn't work. Just finished the process with the Zippyshare version and it works fine (this time I just went straight for simple mode).
Also, I noticed that iTunes doesn't like restore from backup for some reason, getting into a cycle of prompting for backup state, restoring, rebooting, and asking for backup state again. Choose setup new iphone and you'll get through fine.
Edit: Also, after all this my SMS's and camera roll remained as they were on previous Pwnage 2.0.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but I'm on my 4th attempt. I've tried expert and simple and each time I launch Cydia it immediately crashes and takes me back to the home screen. Is there a way to install Cydia w/out having to go through the whole jailbreak process from beginning to end. This is my 1st jailbreak attempt so any insight would be greatly appreciated. Seems there is little point of doing this if Cydia doesn't work. *sigh*
EDIT: I found the following URL. Yes it's for 1.1.4 but...guess I can try to install it manually...(what a difficult journey). http://www.hackthatphone.com/114/iphone_cydia.html
EDIT2: The above didn't work either . I get a message "Unable to decode package more info at http://cydia.saurik.com/apptapp".
EDIT3: I have it working!!! The problem was I was using Unarchiver to unpack the .tbz file...using the command line was the trick for me.

I'll second that that particular link solved my issues. I'd tried the zippyshare links from iphwn.org and they gave me the Cydia problems. I'm thinking maybe there are multiple zippyshare links. This one definitely fixed my issues with Cydia.

If your suffering from bugs and unstable apps try rebooting your phone first!
If that fails I suggest the easiest solution is build a new custom firmware and restore again (rather than messing with permissions etc...)!

If you download a pwned restore file you can restore it through a pwned iTunes... I did this in Windows but the one I downloaded had no carrier information so I get no AT&T signal :)... oh well back to the stock firmware.. Unless I somehow can reactivate in iTunes but I think not.

Thank you my friend. Your a tad late but help is always appeciated. A new build image & used USB port seemed to do the trick.
I am also happy to announce Netshare is installed and working. Very happy about this. Honestly, this was 90% why I wished to jailbreak and after no longer being able to find 3proxy in Cydia I was very disappointed.
Things are rather stable for me, just a minor iTunes issue and of course Installer is a bit unstable but what can one expect it seems to be a rushed beta.

I'm having this problem, too. I'm sure it's a simple fix. Anybody?
Me too-just back up once from your back-up, then when that finishes, set-up as a new phone-all will be well.
I got no WI-FI now though :(

Cydia is constantly freezing on me. Freezing the whole phone to where I can't get out of anything. This just happened again loading Customize. I have to reboot and now I have the Pineapple which will just sit there for an hour till I restore the phone again. Been at this for hours. Same thing.

Thanks. I was hesitant to do that, thinking it would erase my contacts, SMS's, calendar info, etc. But it worked like a charm. Sorry to hear about your lack of Wi-Fi though. Think it's related to this update?

Just noticed your post above. I'm on a 2g and my Wi-Fi was unaffected by this update.

ARGGHH-I am currently restoring to Apple 2.01-I have to have Wi-Fi for this thing. I really jailbroke for the tethering application (can't remember the name, Netshare?) but at this point I need Wi-Fi more than tethering...

I forgot to mention that Visual Voice mail didn't seem to work when pwned. When the 3G was pwned and I chose voice mail-it dialed into the system. Weird-Anyone else notice this? I like the fact that I don't have to waste air time with VVM.

Lavrishevo - Could you say which instructions you used successfully to get Netshare in there? That's what I'm going to tackle next. (Though so far I can't even get a theme running so I'm not hopeful).

Ditto. The install and update went through without a hitch, but my Installer app seems to have a painfully minuscule number of apps, none of which are particularly enticing. No Netshare. I'm happy to manually install sources, but I don't know where to find the proper URLs to put in. Is anybody else having this problem?

Once I stopped using The Unarchiver to unpack the .tbz I was fine. Apparently it "corrupts" things and makes Cydia crash upon launch. Once I unpacked using the command-line things have been excellent.

Instructions for an Intel Mac.
Install SSH throgh Cydia and follow the instructions via terminal. They are a little vague but basically you will need a wireless network for this to work. Start the ssh process via terminal on your mac and let it generate the key. It will take a min or two.
Download and install Cyberduck. Add a new connection called SFTP (SSH) and input the tcip address root as the username and alpine as the password.
Cyberduck will allow you to browse the file system. Then all you do is navigate to the root of the iphone and copy the netshare.app in the applications folder.
If for some reason Netshare does not start properly after a reboot use terminal in OSX to do this:
Copied from the other thread:
"Using an SFTP application (I use Cyberduck), drag the NetShare.app/ folder from the desktop into the iPhone's /Applications folder.
Open a terminal window, and open an SSH session with the iPhone:
$ ssh root@192.168.0.5
(replace the IP address above with your iPhone's IP Wi-Fi address.) The default root login password is "alpine".
Next, go to the NetShare.app folder:
# cd /Applications/NetShare.app
and change the access file mask of the main application file:
# chmod 755 NetShare
Reboot (or re-spring if you know how) your iPhone.
You're done!"

Are you putting the phone in DFU mode? If not you need to do this and not just (option) restore.

Again, you are entering DFU mode and not just hitting restore right? You need to put the phone in DFU mode.
Otherwise, might be a corrupt custom .ipsw Delete and re-install Pwnage. Some people were complaining about corrupt copies of Pwnage being passed around.

Yea, I'm putting it in DFU. I'll try reinstalling Pwnage.

Use expert mode. By doing this you can deselect custom logos. Expert mode really does not require you to be an expert...

HELP
I really am not sure what I did differently-I restored the official 2.01 between each attempt to pwn-and the 3rd time it worked.
I think on the 2nd attempt, I used expert mode and forgot to choose the "itunes activation" option that is part of the simple mode.
Restored 2.01 from Apple and then re-ran the pwn software. For whatever reason, it works!
Tonight I am going to try and install Netshare (I think that is what it is called)-the tethering app.
Must say, there are very few things available on installer-haven't really checked out Cydia yet. I have a 1.1.4 iPod touch and there is FAR MORE availability of applications than on the 2.0X version with my iPhone.
