I guess this goes to show that there really is no such thing as negative advertising. they've got photos of steve jobs holding their product high in the air - context be damned.

This is Rio's way of getting back at Apple.

Pretty clever

It should read:

"As Insulted in Steve Job's Keynote 2004"

Actually that's funny, and though the specs on the mini iPod are vastly better they should put "$50 cheaper than the mini iPod." Which of course is a stupid price point for Apple to do in the first place... now if Apple/Jobs had a BRAIN they'd have priced it at $199 with the Rio garbage, then Rio wouldn't be doing this (and Apple would sell millions and yes before some goob sez something contrary, even at $199 Apple would be making a profit on each sold)

let's just wait until they start bashing the ipod and we could go "iPod bashed by cheap worthless competitors"

Everyone I know up here ends up getting some cheap peice of crud MP3 player instead of an iPod, I have yet to see someone holding an iPod infront of me

well I think plenty of people dislike or dismiss SJ on principle. So the audience Rio is communicating to will be able to read in between the lines I think. Also the fact that SJ singled it out for a comparison is an endorsement of sorts as well.

I thought it was rather clever myself. Reminds me of when Fight Club proudly quoted negative reviews on some of their commercials.

Um... Rio themselves have just come out with a $249 4GB player... would rather take the wind out of their "$50 cheaper than iPod" sails. Especially since they'd still have to mumble "and 1/16th the size" under their breath.
