It's already out there: SportsTap

I use it to follow baseball mostly, and soon the NFL. One of the best apps I've used, and it's FREE!

I actually just posted a comparison (http://www.appstoreinfo.com/?p=504) on my site of the Olympic-themed apps available on the App Store. I'd have to say SportsTap, though. It does it all well and it's free.

Not technically a widget and only for US residents, but NBC's mobile Olympics page does the job for me (mobile.nbcolympics.com (http://mobile.nbcolympics.com)).

Some people don't realise you can add an icon to your iPhone homepage at the same time you make bookmarks. I just went to the official medal count (http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/GL/95A/GL0000000.shtml) in Safari, hit the + to make a book mark, then hit 'Add to home page'. From that page you can navigate actual results. If you're interested in a specific stat or result, you can add those as well, such as USA gold medals (http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/GL/92A/USA_G.shtml), or all olympic/world records in swimming (http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/REC/SW.shtml).

I don't understand why you'd want a medal tracking app given that you can do this.

If you consider a silver or bronze the same as a gold, sure... ;)
