Probably about 1 to 2 months after they are released by Intel which is Q408 or Q109.

Can't wait. That's definitely when I'll be upgrading from this macbook. :)

Performance wise what will be the difference from the current and the new one?

If you buy a Macbook now, will you be able to upgrade free of charge to a Nehalem processor when it comes out or is there a fee you have to pay?

Thanks.

It will definitely be a charge in the form of buying a new machine. The Nehalem processor will not work with the current range of motherboards and Apple never offers free upgrades of it products.

But Apple does protect you when you buy a product near the end-of-life cycle. So not 100% free update but its better than buying a whole new machine.

Mobile Nehalem is more like Q2-Q3 '09 if currently published schedules are accurate.

Agreed. If it was Q408-Q109 Apple might just as well skip an update based on Penryn/Montevina and go straight for Nehalem.

Second half of 2009 is when Intel is going to release the Mobile i7 chips. I would say that we won't see MB/MBP's with i7 (Nehalem) until MWSF 2010.
