With all the pictures of the new MacBook casing online be t fake or real, it's another Tuesday that's coming up.

I hope they release new MacBooks especially with led backlit screens and I feel it in my gut that it will happen before September.

hope your gut is right. It would be nice to get the new revision and an iPod... But my gut feels differently than yours. (but hey, that could just be gas :p)

They're not going to release a completely redesigned revision of their best selling computer without significant media coverage. They're yet to send invitations to a media event, so I doubt that you'll see anything this time around.

When is their next event?

Their next offical event is Macworld and that is in January. However, I believe they'll have a special event hopefully sometime in early September to introduce the updated macbooks.

I've been waiting a very long time to make the switch with the montevina macbook, but I'm not going to complain (look how long people have been waiting for mac minis and mac pros!)

jjahshik32

I think they'll just update it and just stamp on the intro to the apple.com with macbooks now in aluminum + led or something.

well it's an event that they typically update ipod's at, not an ipod event, so I wouldn't doubt that they would update their laptops too.

Why don't you do a search before starting a new thread?

To the OP, I hear the Nvidia cards in the MBP could cause some problems 3-4 years down the line. Any thoughts on this?

The nvidia 8600m gt cards are all defective so it could fail anytime but you have to keep in mind that it really depends on your usage pattern.

If you game hardcore or use 3d modeling intensely, I'm sure that you can heat cycle the card more hot than rather warm to cool often that the card will die quicker say in a year or two at most but if you barely use your gpu card and it gets mildly warm to cool I'm sure it can stick it out for 3-4 years but thats even worse when your apple care has run out.

So basically the new macbooks are getting a new redesign so this is a big deal to apple.

And the only way it will be released is probably with some kind of an announcement which the perfect date would be in september for the ipods.

I guess I change my original post thoughts with this tuesday to september now since I didnt know about the even in sept. =(

Hey Apple has never mixed their iPod and their laptops in the same time.
So It would probably not be introduced in the same time.
For 2 reasons :
1-like i said, never togeter
2-it would be too many new products at the same time (don't forget that 2.0/iphone/mobile me/etc launch)

just my 2 cents

If Apple releases on this Tuesday, they would easily be able to be in time for the back to school season. Laptops are going to be flying off shelves like no tommorow in the next few weeks, and with the absolute shortage of Mac notebooks in retailer stocks, they have to release a new product, or somehow supply us with more stock in the next week or two.

4 MacBooks for back to school season at a significent retailer doesn't really make sense from a business standpoint, now does it?

If you ask me its either this week or next week if Apple wants to capitilize.

Really? On the 30th/31st retailers were told to buy 3 weeks of Macbooks/Pros, and 4 weeks of iPods, was this a different update or something?

Lol its not like were waiting for some miracle to happen. It will happen sometime this month or sometime in september but pretty much its 100% that it will happen in those months. Also apple never releases the dates they just come out with it out of the blue.

I cant wait to get the aluminum + led backlit screen macbooks and if the rumors are true cheaper price cuts too!! Maybe $200-$300 cheaper.

I'm with you on the backlit keyboard thing. It'd be awesome if you could choose to add the option of getting the color of the backlit keyboard to change to different colors... something tells me that's not going to happen though. It'd be good enough if they introduced the backlit keyboard to the MB's, I'd be happy enough with that.

Aluminium... hmm.. I'm still a fan of the black / white idea. Though maybe seeing aluminium macbooks will change my mind on it.

I could care less about backlit keyboards... if you read close I said LED backlit screen meaning lcd screens.

And believe me there will definitely be led backlit screens and I'm guessing the current mba's screens will be implemented onto the macbooks that will be freakishly awesome.

Ah.

I hope there will be. It'd be a shame if the MB was the only laptop in their current line-up without it.

I don't really see them announcing a new MacBook or MacBook Pro design in the immediate future. I see Apple doing the standard iPod lineup update, along with maybe some few new small features with iTunes in September, but nothing more than that. Maybe the typical spec boost that we are used to seeing will happen with the MB and MBP, but I don't see there being a major change with them until MWSF '09 this year. If you think about it, an updated iPod line (if it were to happen on any level) plus a new look for the MB and MBP would be a lot for one event that isn't given all that much press beforehand. That is why I see them updating the MB and MBP majorly during MWSF '09, as that could be the big update for the expo.

Jan. 09 is wayy to late for an update. Apple has to use the newer specs from what Intel is offering at the moment other wise they'll be completely out of stock since Intel already stopped producing the current chipsets probably a couple months ago.

and there is 0 reasons to release macbooks before the college promo ends. Why should anyone get a free ipod and brand new updated, probably price reduced macbook?Because the iMacs were updated last year midway through the promotion?

And those saying speed bump soon, no redesign until later… every notebook rumor since April of this year has been saying or hinting at a redesign this quarter.

I am not meaning to say that we will not see an update between now and then, only that we will not see a major update (new case design, new features). I do suspect that we will see a minor spec boost sometime between now and October, but not this rumored major change. I think that the major change will occur at MWSF '09, and we will see a minor spec boost between now and then.

The only for sure we have are LED backlit displays, other than that everything is just speculation. I'd be fine buying a white plastic MacBook with a LED backlit display, that's all I'm looking forward to in the new MacBooks.

Either way Apple has me sold on a MacBook. I need it for school and the current MacBook will do the job just fine, it's just who doesn't want the latest and great of technology? :)

The busiest Apple store in Canada (Toronto Eaton Centre) is closed this week for renovations - you can bet they won't be rolling out any highly anticipated new products the week their flagship store is closed.

Typically we see the online stores go down with the same message as usual on some post-it note like message on their page saying that they are updating the store and will be back later. They never say what they are updating on that page, and usually do not right away. Then once it is back up you have to find out for yourself what they have changed, which is fairly easily as there is usually some small banner saying something like, "MacBooks, now faster than ever with speeds up to 2.4" or something like that.

But right now for me the store is completely up and running, and I do not think that we would see any update until September, and I think that if there were an update, then it would only be a small one.
