I am looking to update my iTunes library, but I need some suggestions because I am stumped. I like hard rock (Breaking Benjamin, Sevendust, Dark New Day, Seether, Killswitch Engage) and I think I know just about every established band. Do you have any new up and coming bands for me to check out??? Please list them!

Ugh, between this thread title and "What are your currently listening to?" I'm going to tear my hair out. In the Music Discussion section, double-click to the right of your thread title, and add the "r" in "your." Thanks.
Anyways, I don't have my iPod classic near me right now, so on my iPod touch...
Disturbed
Does it Offend You, Yeah?
The Doors
Industrial Platypus (www.myspace.com/industrialplatypus)
Jonathan Coulton
Matchbox Twenty
Mindless Self Indulgence
Nine Inch Nails
ohGr
A Place to Bury Strangers

Er, no. Saul Williams is terrible.
Edit to respond to your edit: I didn't recommend him. I would never recommend something so terrible.

WHAT?!
Then why did you recommend it?

WHAT?!
Then why did you recommend it?
I didn't. It was what's on my iPod.
However, I would recommend the other stuff.
The reason it is on my iPod is because it happened to be in a big list I decided to sync today.
The reason I have it is because I bought it when it was released because (as I've mentioned in many other threads) I strongly support the free-music movement, and because he marketed the album as a free album, with an optional $5 donation, I decided to donate. I also did a review thread which turned into a huge flame, where I gave the album a 3, very close to a 2. I thought my review was pretty fair, but *shrugs* I didn't like it at all, and Saul Williams does too much spoken-word stuff for me, and a lot of his music is all-in-all, pretty trashy in my opinion.
Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm talking about "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust." Despite the fact that Trent Reznor is a die-hard Bowie fan, the title of the album kind of annoyed me as a Bowie fan myself :)

Read my last post. It goes into greater detail. I posted his name because it was what's on my iPod. I wouldn't recommend it, but the OP was looking for what's on my iPod + some new music, and I guess if he wanted to check out Saul Williams, that's fine. I didn't want to exclude it solely for the reason that I think Saul Williams is a terrible musician.
Though, I do think he's a wonderful artist and poet.
OP or Mods: Whoever edited the title, thank you :) :)!

I'm the same way, I have a lot of music I don't listen to and don't like.
I don't normally listen to rap but Saul Williams is the best rapper I have heard.
So what artist do you actually like and listen to... like a top 5 or 10?
LOL, the OP was like "what the hell are you two talking about."

Well, I take care to separate my "good music" from the music "I like," when in discussions about music. I am a Jazz and Orchestral musician. Rarely do songs from other genres get lumped into my "good music" categories.
As for what I listen to, my top fives are probably:
David Bowie
Nine Inch Nails
A blend of electronic/Indie bands in small portions, like "Does it Offend You, Yeah?" and such
Industrial Platypus (www.myspace.com/industrialplatypus) :D
Then bands like Rush come in here.
I don't really have a top five. I pretty much just listen to whatever I feel like at the moment, but it's been a lot of Nine Inch Nails lately because I'm going to the concert in 12 days.
Edit: By the way, Industrial Platypus is me..so that's why I always post a link. And in case you're curious, it also doesn't get lumped in the "Good music" category :o

Until I have two iPods I am going to have to keep all my good and crappy music together.
When I get a touch I will keep mass amounts of media on my classic and have what I really like on the touch.
I too tend to fall into trends of music I like.
And going to a NIN concert, eh?
I heard they're pretty good.
Oh, and I'm gonna add your band on myspace if you don't mind.

If you like electronic/Indie music you should try listening to VNV Nation.
Their albums FuturePerfect and Judgement are epic.

I don't use my Classic much anymore, but I do use it every once in a while. I don't really separate my music that way except in conversation, but I use my Classic as a hub for a larger amount of music. I have too much to fit on either, though...
Yeah, Trent Reznor is amazing, though I'm not too fascinated with the band he has together for this tour. Should be a better show than the one I went to in 2005, though that was an amazing show as well.
And that's no problem at all, man! Industrial Platypus isn't really a band, and the only other member dropped out after the first album. I'm working on the second album right now by myself, which will be out hopefully by the end of the year. All my music's free...if you want .logic files of it, I will give them upon request, but it's all released on a Creative Commons license, so you can remix the songs, share them, et cetera, but no commercial use and no money. I refuse to sell the music, and I want it to remain free for everyone.
I'm always looking for adds on Myspace, though (you've already been accepted) and if you do like it (it's electronic music), tell anyone you'd like! Thanks, by the way :D

I'm a myspace wh*r* so I'll post bulletins telling people to add you.
And I can't listen to it right now because the computer I'm on at the moment doesn't have speakers.
I'll listen to it on my laptop tomorrow morning.
And let me know what you think of VNV Nation.

I'm liking it so far. The singer reminds me of the singer of R.E.M.
And, just keep in mind that the songs haven't been mastered at all yet, so some of them may not sound great in laptop speakers. Should be fine for the most part, but just keep that in mind :) I'm working on it.

My laptop is hooked up to a speaker system a lot of the time.
My desktop just... won't recognize the speakers for some reason.
That's what I get for using Windows.
We should probably continue this in a myspace conversation.

Perhaps, but I posted a big list of artists/bands from several genres, and categorised them. The initial list wasn't very big, so it wouldn't be hard to pick through, and if he found anything in the non-hard rock genre he liked from my other list, it works out...or he can just check my small "metal" list, or skip my post entirely :) He's looking for new music, more specifically stuff from the hard rock genre, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's all he wants recommendations for.
In This Moment is my top recommendation of this month for upcoming Metal bands. They're about to release their second album. The first album was great.
Edit: I'll add Dimmu Borgir, too. As Mindless Self Indulgence singer Jimmy Urine would say: "I like my coffee black just like my metal." ;)
