I sold my 2G iphone long ago in preparation for the 3G. I finally got my 3G iPhone but when I plug it into my mac, iTunes does not ask if I want to restore any previous backup. isn't it supposed to?

if not, is there any way I can retrieve my contacts...? perhaps from delving deep into the backup files and doing something with them?

any help will be very much appreciated!

I assume you are using a Mac and syncing with your contacts on it? You should just be able to sync it up and everything will be there. 🙂

I don't completely understand what you're saying.

are you referring to the address book?

the problem I am having is how to prompt iTunes to ask me if I want to restore using a previous backup. also, I jailbroke my iPhone 2G so I kind of don't want to restore with any of my previous backups.

basically what I want is to somehow isolate the contacts from the backup files and maybe get them on a word document so I can just re-input my contacts onto my new phone.
