Is there any "correct" way of connecting and disconnecting an external display from a macbook pro? I have been connecting and disconnecting the display with everything on and I have not really had any problems.

the DVI connector is autosense, so the shouldn't make any difference. I do it all the time on the road with projection systems.

The computer will automatically sense the display, there's no "right" way to connect/disconnect.
