How many have purchased a desktop in the last 2 years? How many have got a desktop over a notebook? The trend seems to be toward notebooks. I have both, got a desktop for the big screen. What reason did you get a desktop?

I bought several desktops since that is what I like using. Mainly I want the expandability and a larger screen. Personally I just hate the idea of spending more for less.
The only reason I had gotten a laptop was because it was free + the cost of repairs $45. My friends friend apparently did not want to spend $45 to replace the battery. So after a couple of months of never calling me back I kept it. It's actually a pretty nice one too.
Now I do on site computer repairs. So when this laptop is useless for simple network tests I will replace it. Assuming I am still doing the on site work. Otherwise desktops all the way.
I would lean towards notebooks if the motherboard manufacturers agreed upon a standardized form factor like ATX so that I could build my own. I want to be able to choose a Motherboard, CPU, Screen etc... and build it myself.

I purchased both, though I only own a laptop (the desktop was for someone else in the family). I'm used to only working on the more portable of laptops since my mid teens, so having a 13" screen is the norm for me. I'm not considering buying one for myself in the near future at all.
It's gotten so that looking at often substantially bigger desktop monitors gives me headaches after a while.

Purchased (actually it was given to me as a birthday present) a laptop within the past 2 years.
Though its mainly for fun tasks, as I can't imagine doing real work on a 13" screen.
I plan to get a 20" iMac late winter because my old iMac G5 is getting old and has a rather small screen.

While I do a great deal of work on my laptop, I too prefer a desktop for "work" while the laptop is great all around.
Only notebooks for me from now on. I can connect the macbook to a large display along with external keyboard/mouse and have a desktop setup when I don't need portability.
Owning two computers get's a bit complicated, no reason to own two when one does both jobs well.

I had a G5 iMac and a first gen Mac Book. I found I wasn't using the MB as much as I thought, but still wanted the portability for trips and such, so I sold them both and bought a MBP and a Dell 20" monitor last June. I now use the MBP as a desktop at home, then unplug the keyboard, mouse, and monitor and I can use it on the road.
I have the best of both worlds.
