can we use backup of old 3g iphone and restore it onto new one?

if we get a replacement, can we use an old backup and restore everything including contacts, apps, pics, onto the new phone?

are you sure it reinstalls contacts too? that's the main thing, as i can easily just re-add music and apps.

if it does reinstall contacts, then how do i restore? i know there is a restore button when i connect my iphone, but that just says do you want to restore the iphone to its FACTORY default settings, it doesn't give me an option to restore to a previous back up, which i did just a couple days ago.
 
your constant use of the word 'we' suggests that you have more than one persona, considering the party 'we' refers to was undefined.

interesting, i simply stated we as in the collective, not just myself. ie: all 3g iphone users, not we as in me and my split personality lol
