Dude, there is no chance in hell he will sell this kind of laptop for 1600. Are you kidding. If this is a brandnew laptop with all the stuff included and everything is perfect... even 2000 is a hell of a price.
He is a newbie though, so exercise caution.

Bernie, ,Bernie, where are you?

Last week you promised it to me.
My dad is inFlorida and had the cash.
I just asked for verification of the Applecare and sales receipt and suddenly you changed your mind.
Are you selling or?....

Are you selling or?.... Ssherman, I'm betting it is already SOLD.
Hope whoever bought it gets what they bargained for.
If not already sold, make sure your Dad swaps the PowerBook for cash in person, and get a copy of his receipt for the book and for AppleCare, which if done right is transferable.

NOTE: Bernie is also selling a 20" Mac Studio Monitor that he also put up for sale on January 8th but on a separate thread.
Thread: 20" Mac Studio Flat Screen FOR SALE
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?threadid=54350

I'm OUT since Bernie has failed to respond to my numerous inquiries, or yours, or others...and seems to hesitate when asked for a RECEIPT. Hmmmm?
Something appears to be wrong with this deal.

Check eBay.com for "PowerBook" deals for 15" and 17", lightly used or new-in-the-box, matches this, sometimes better.

I actually talked on the phone to bernie and he seemed OK,except for the fact that the Applecare he claimed to have purchased was never registered nor the machine itself.
I called Applecare and they had no record of it.
That may just mean that he had YET to register it and I had no problem with that as long as he had the paperwork.
When I told him I would need copies of the paperwork when we did the deal he suddenly decided not to sell it afterall.....

This is ridiculous, The PB is mine I have the right to sell to whoever I wish to, Ssherman honestly sounded shady to me , Ive never sold a PC online, he asked me for the serial # he checked it was in my name, and him asking me for a receipt was not the reason why I didnt sell it to him.
I have my own reasons for that, I have received so many replies to this that between school & work I have had time to only answer emails, I havent been on this thread for over 2 weeks.

Look bottom line is if you think Im scamming PLEASE DONT BUY IT!
I went on this forum to get apple info , then I saw a classified section and im selliong my PB I didnt think Id get so many accusations.

Bernie?
I sounded shady?
I offered you cash in the person of my 82 year old father who lives near you.
Whats shady about that?
You stated you had the 3 yr Applecare agreement but am umwilling to verify it.
I said as long as you could show my dad the items as promised we had a straight deal.
Seems pretty upfront and honest to me....

BernieV
Jan 15, 2004, 09:41 AM
I said I had to get the receipt I NEVER SAID I DIDNT HAVE IT.
THAT MAKES ME A RISK, I gave you my serial # you failed to tell the thread that My name was associated with it. I declined to sell the product to you for 2 reasons, First why should I drive over 45 minutes when Im already losing alot money and second I have people who Ive made arrangements with that are giving me no slack about anything.

I felt that once I sold it to you you would try and find anything wrong with the system to me thats not worth it...

Maybe Shady was the wrong word but just say I also felt uneasy about selling to you.

Your just
Bernie

ssherman
Jan 15, 2004, 09:45 AM
Yes, thats true, you gave me the serial number.
Apple told me it was unregistered and there was no Applecare enrolled for the machine.
You offered to drive it over to my Dad, I didn't insist on it.
All I wanted was verification, thats pretty simple to me.
Your backing out and claiming you decided not to sell was pretty weird to me..

Bernie finally did contact me by iChat, and he answered some of my questions very satisfactorily including how he acquired the PB and from whom (unnamed relative) he bought it, and when and where it was originally purchased.
But everytime I tried to get a specific answer to even seemingly irrelevent questions, he bulked, telling me the same things he has reportedly told ssherman and others.

At this point, he has backed out of a face-to-face purchase in Florida for cash from ssherman's dad and does not want to use PayPal. He has made no indication of being ready, willing or able to acquire the original paperwork from his relative.
I don't know what else to think. How else is anyone going to feel comfortable dealing with Bernie?
