I heard that cydia will make your phone lag, anyone else experienced this? Especially opening settings and contacts, people have reported that removing cydia improves the performance by a lot! Anyone tested this?

I just jailbroke mine last night and i have not had a problem with cydia lagging out my phone. Everything still works fine for me. Maybe I am on of the lucky ones.
Same here. I find no difference with cydia. Infact cydia dosen't do anything untill you start the app in which it creates an sftp server.

Also, Cydia doesn't create an sftp server when started. It's a client for an APT repository. I'm not totally sure on the workings of APT, but it's a client because it downloads files from a server.
You may be thinking of OpenSSH. That doesn't drain battery either because it's only active when data hits port 22 on the phone to start the phones SSH or SFTP server 😀
