oddly enough, i do not have a mac account. i need one to redeem itunes gift cards and to get apps on my iphone. i have searched this site and haven't found a clear answer to my questions yet so here it goes:
1. what is a mac account, i know it used to be .mac but now
2. i know it asks for a credit card when you sign up, but is there anyway to not put in credit card info? (i'm 15 and i don't have a credit card) however, if needed, i have access to parents.
3. does it cost anything to make an account?
4. is there anyway to bypass making an account to redeem itunes cards?
i am sorry for asking probably the dumbest questions ever but i never understood any of it.

Its called an 'Apple ID'
You can create one by:
Registering for MobileMe
Registering in iTunes Store
Registering in Apple Support Forums
Your id is the email account you register with Apple!
If you create an MMe account..... your ID will be <username>@me.com!

Registering for the forums or the iTunes store won't cost you anything.

you can keep an apple id not associated with a credit card. when you make the account, log in using itunes, and click redeem code. the credit will go to your account and there is no credit card involved!

i have a green dot, and they don't take them. if i got a prepaid visa, could i just let it run out of money for good? i use prepaid itunes cards instead

prepaid visa is like cash essentially. you use that number to enter into the system, and you can still use the card for whatever else. this is how you get around the system of having to register credit card info.

You can start an account using only iTunes cards. In the store click Sign In > Create New Account > Redeem Code

Funny how you flame a guy in another thread for not knowing how to read...

Completely different situation and I'm fine with my responses.
