I just saw this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcQ7RkyBoBc
and it made me want to play Halo on my mac even though I'm so use to 3 on my 360 Halo is still very much the same game it would be cool to have it on the go on my MacBook Pro.
Does anyone know if people still play this on the mac and run servers? If so I'm definitely gonna run down to the Apple store tomorrow and pick up a copy.

I just pull my copy of Halo out yesterday and installed everything. I just really felt like playing through the campaign.

There was a new Halo update released very recently that allows you to play Halo without the CD in the drive anymore. After downloading, I ended up playing for 3 hours. Haven't done that in a while.

I was thinking of purchasing the game, but I have TF2, Bioschock, CoD4, Crysis all to enjoy on my new MP (when it arrives GRRRRRRR).
An online MAC shooter would be fun though :(

I would normally just enjoy it on the PC side but I just removed boot camp to free up space and I just want to stay Mac 100% of the time. I only used Windows to play games. Perhaps one day Parallels gets good enough to run almost as well as native Windows for games.

You could check Usenet to get the files itself, but you'd need to find a legit CD key. Its a shame you cant legally buy the game for a reasonable price anymore.

I still play sometimes--though it has been a while at the moment--and thanks to this new patch, I can even play on my Air with no optical drive! (And it runs pretty well, too.)

I've been playing a pirated copy it's abandonware in my book since it's not produced anymore, so I don't feel bad.
It's still a lot of fun.

With older versions we could (but no servers are open now because both windows and mac are updated).
With the new 2.0.3 there is a serial for singleplayer but not multiplayer, HOWEVER multiplayer on gameranger does work.

Installed today, updated.
The only noticeable glitch is there are sometimes black lines, like a box, around guns. Its probably because I have shaders or something turned on. Ill play with my settings

Yeah, what is going on with this?
Last month, I could play on about 100 servers. But today I tried to play online, there were literally only 2 servers open to me.
I heard something about a software update.
Is this a permanent thing? All my favourite servers (BBT MODS baby!) don't seem available to me anymore.

You need the universal binary patch. I believe it is $5.

You can thank Microsoft for that. Bungie used to design games for our platform exclusively, and eventually started PC-porting games.
Then Microsoft bought them out, and switched all of their development over to the XBox. We were lucky to have a port of Halo, years late from the original release.

Most of their Mac releases can be found on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/) now. I've been playing Team Fortress, which I snagged over it's free to download weekend (sort of like the App store does), and Left 4 Dead 2 lately.

Outstanding game! I've just started playing through the campaign again on my iMac, thought it best to give it another run through now before Lion as I'm assuming that it won't run on the new OS :(

The game is REALLY EXPENSIVE but there is a demo for it. It lets you play the Cartographer mission and play Blood Gultch online CTF or free for all. Theres also some mods on it too that players make. So you have at least something to play. Your not missing out on much. The campaign is great but there isnt a lot of replay value in it and online the blood gultch is the best map.
Heres a link to the demo: http://halo-combat-evolved.en.softonic.com/mac

I still have my Mac OS version of Halo:CE and play it on a regular basis. Last month, I bought a new 27" Apple Cinema Display and ran it in native resolution of the ACD (2560x1440) and it was simply amazing to behold despite the games age.
Despite running off of my late 2010 "MBP, the Core 2 Duo and the Nvidia 320m kept a smooth pace. I rarely play online due to my crappy internet but to me, the campaign never seems to get old. I only wish that the remake of the original Halo will make it to the Mac. :apple:
Some parts look amazing in the remake while others look completely unfamiliar in some pics I've seen.

Yeah, it's crazy expensive for a copy of Halo for Mac. Since I didn't have a mac when the game came out, I tried to look for a used copy online, but they were $100 + on ebay.
I hope that this will be released at some point on the Mac app store, but I heard Aspire doesn't have the rights to republish the game anymore.

This thread made me remember that I bought the game when I first got my 12 PB... looked for it and surprisingly found it. Its going to be a long night :)

Aspyr never did have publishing rights, the game was ported and published by MacSoft ;)

@Davedee65: actually, as long as you have the Universal Binary version of Halo, you should be able to continue playing it under Lion. Now, whether or not the performance will take a hit or still be playable is questionable - but that may be the question for all UB versions of games. Intel-native games obviously should stay the same, or improve in performance.
Very useful chart here: http://guides.macrumors.com/Intel_Mac_Games

I bought the UB binary update and never had to bother with Rosetta again, when you purchase the UB update, it's a complete overhaul thus you download a DMG which is burned directly to disc via Disk Utility.
You still use the same CD key provided with with your original version and must have it to purchase the UB update.
I don't think there will be any issues with Lion, the UB app is a complete container (no folder with another mess of files) :)
It's also ideal for MBA gaming as the complete game.app package is rather small.

So from your pic, it looks like there may be a version update for you. Never too late to upgrade to the latest version :)

Just tried running the installer package from my burned disc, and as soon as it starts "configuring the installer" the installer application crashes. i haven't tried to restart or really troubleshoot this yet, but just curious if anyone else has seen this issue? I'm on a early 2009 Mac mini with the 2Ghz Core2 with OS X 10.7.

All my friends/enemies on the old 1.5.2 servers have deserted it. I checked back for the first time in a month or 3 and there is no one left, so I guess they all upgraded to the UB version.
I feel like I know the answer to this, but: Is there any legitimate way to get the UB without an original CD Key? I bought my version when it first came out, but for the life of me can't find the damn manual with the key on the back. I have the original CD, even had the box for a while, but no CD Key. Am I screwed?
EDIT: Dur, I didn't even look too deep into search results before posting. Found a way that might work, going to try it now.

OK. I have a problem. I just bought a new MBP that came with Lion preinstalled on it, and the installer even for the universal binary of Halo is PPC only. How on earth will I go about installing it? I don't have access to a Snow Leopard machine, nor do I even know if this computer will run Snow Leopard now.
Can I install Snow Leopard server in VMWare and install it that way? Or am I out of luck without getting access to a Snow Leopard machine?
