I received an email from Apple saying I get 12 free copies to Macworld. When I went to the website to claim them, it makes you choose your most recent Apple
purchase. Check out the image!

To verify that it's not just a mistake, does that list include "Power Mac G5" or just "G5" as well?

It would be, those buttons look very un-Apple.

i have a feeling it is just someone that wrote the page wanting to create speculation.

although, i don't doubt that apple has an iMac G5 in the works.

If a G5 iMac was due out soon, it certainly would have debuted at the expo.

I think they try to take the power from rumour sites by trying to teach us that apple tech is unpredictable, they really hate the sales slumps leading up to big mac events. They won't beat us but they can only do their best with this relatively cost free method of suprise release dates.
I think this tactic could have been what those expo arguments were about, Apple not attending and threatening to pull out if they didn't get their way.

Good stuff soon me thinks.

Take a look at all the options.

Do you see Server G5 or Xserve G5? -- This is an announced product but it is not there.

Hence I wouldn't hold my breath -- this is either a mistake or wishful thinking

I'd buy one!

I thought the same thing. But, it really surprised me to see that as an option.

This is a good point, looking again I would err on a story that someone said "we have to distinguish between the G4 and the G5 on the drop down menu" so the windoze type bod goes and makes an extra listing for a G5 imac not realising the subtlety of knowing what a G4 is as opposed to a G4 imac.

Possibly done intentionally but probably just a typo.

Obviously, Apple is going to replace all the G4s with G5s, and now that the 5's are 90nm, squeezing one into the iMac won't be a problem. It will definitely be a sweet consumer machine.

Still hoping for a G5 cube also.

If they debuted everything at the expo, which was on the 1st few days of the 1st month of the year, what would be left for the rest of the year ? What a boring rest of the year it would be with only speed increases and a surprise or two here and there. Plus, with the relatively recent introduction of the 20" iMac, I don't think we will see G5 iMacs in a new form or probably not even in the same form. I think the iMac would get the G5 at 1.6 GHz and 1.8 GHz once the G5 hits 3 GHz in the summer. That way there would be a big gap in speed between the iMacs and Power Macs. Currently the iMac tops at 1.25 GHz, so expect an upgrade to 1.33 GHz in a month or two.

When I got mine for my ipod 2 years ago, it was because I had registered it on the apple site, register.apple.com/

I don't ever recall getting the offer in the email, until after I had gone to the site.

The iMac G5 is inevitable. Maybe they just don't want to have to update their webpage in a few months. MW is in Boston this year, right, and Apple isn't showing?

Check THIS out...

http://www.970eval.com/BlockDiagram_970.html

Can the iMac handle the heat of the current 2.0GHz G5 & UniNorth 3.0 (60W + 30W)?

Of course this may or may not indicated that the Apple U3 is a hot little sucker, but the U3 from Apple does have a heat pipe/sink.

I received the same offer when I registered my new iMac. Unfortunately, I already received a free year subscription from my brother at Christmas! Hmm, wonder if there is some way I can ransfer that free subscription to someone else...

Anyway, I'm sure this is just a typo. The G5 iMacs will becoming soon, but not for a couple more months, I'm predicting - not before the PM speed bumps. Since this isn't on Apple's official site or anything, I'm sure it was a typo.

Funny how these little glitches cause such a fuss!

Wow, that is the most solid set of numbers I have ever seen on 970 power usage. I figured the UniNorth ran hot, but didn't think that hot =). Hopefully if it sees similar improvements on a 90nm process we'll see that number cut nearly in half. (Rumored improvement on 90nm - we can dream can't we?) (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/09/20030929111636.shtml)

Too bad it'll be like pulling teeth to get any info from Apple about power consumption - I guess they figure the rumor community is getting too smart - or just smart enough to be dangerous :D .

Even better would be an Emac G5. I gotta go cheap and to the Canuck that bought an eMac and got a free year subscription, Oh Ya! I'm from Canada too. I can't afford the sweet unit iMac so will have to go eMac and hope to see a G5 in it soon. My PowerComputing PowerCenter 132 (with Powerlogix 300 MHz and Voodoo 3 2000 upgrades) is getting way to old and constantly buggy. I would love to use the OS X and am patiently waiting for a eMac upgrade.

eMac 1GHz SuperDrive $2,099.00

If you have the deskspace, just get the eMac. It's about the same performance-wise, and you'll end up putting over $1500 in your pocket.

Now, if you plan on doing intensive graphics stuff, get an iMac.

But honestly, if you're going to do any of that, you're better off with a Powermac G4 or G5.

Uh-oh! I was worried they might do that. I just bought a new Powerbook at Xmas and got the free magazine offer in email, but I'm only part way through with another free offer I got when I bought my G4 MDD 1.42Ghz PowerMac last year.

I wonder if I can save the email and apply for the offer months down the road, after my current subscription expires?

Well, if someone knows how I can make it work, I'll be happy to fill out the form for my free year's subscription to MacWorld and somehow send it to someone else. I don't know if it keys on my Apple's registration info or not though, or if I could just sign up anyone to receive my free year!

The option for the G5 iMac was there when I registered last month. I think it's a typo, because there's no option for a PowerMac G5.

Compare the 20" to the 17" and what is the only thing that is different? You guessed it, the display. The cost associated with making the housing for the display is minimal and Apple probably already has recouped their cost and then some. Just because they recently brought out the 20" doesn't mean that new iMacs are not that far away. If anything, it might show that iMac sales have dropped and they used that to get people to buy more of them, especially before the holidays.

ummm, not necessarily. all that means is that google found the apple store website, which mentions the both the iMac and the G5 within it someplace. search for iMac notebook and it turns up the apple store in the paid links as well. and we all know the imac is not a notebook. ibook G5 turns up the apple store as well. so does airport G5. this means absolutely nothing.
