DVD drive formats...

Can anyone explain the differences between DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW? Which of these four formats is the most common or likely to play in most DVD players? Are there any benefits for certain formats? Thanks for any advice? :)

Sorry to double-post, but I forgot one question? If by any chance someone has experience with an Alienware or Voodoo laptop, would you share some feedback? I know this is an Apple forum, but I have always received thoughtful replies here, so I dare not venture to PC forums. Thanks again. :D

my friend just gave me a copy of a wedding he did video for, i didn't notice but it was burned on a +R disc, and it wont play in my ps2, or my panasonic home dvd... i donthave a +R dvd drive, but im sure it wont work.. i took it to my gf's brand new dvd player.. doesn't work either... or my friends other friends house...

i'd stick with the -R for now.
