buying an used iMac off craigslist......

Hi guys,

If this is in the wrong thread, I would like to apologize ahead of time. Please feel free to remove it if applicable; I saw a craigslist listing for an old imac. It said it is supposed to have Core 2 duo 2.0GHz, 2gb of ram. 160gb hard drive, and ati X1600. The person is selling it for $675.00. I was wondering if anybody would know if this is considered a good deal. or should that selling price be lower? any advice/suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you in advance.
 
I'd at least respond to the ad. Chances are, though, that the "seller" just moved overseas, but is very anxious to sell and will work through his shipping company to get the deal done as soon as possible. In other words, probably a scam.
 
I have had contact with the seller, and they appear to be local. He said the iMac is in prestine condition, but he bought in late 2006, so I was curious to know if it is indeed a C2D 2.0 GHz, or is it a Core Duo instead. I wanted to get opinions from other users to see if this is a good deal. This is a first gen white iMac by the way.....

Better yet, if he is local, go look at it yourself and avoid any funny business

Thanks guys for all the input so far. Now suppose if everything all checked out, and the machine is as spec'd as he said. is this a pretty good deal or no? any further insights are appreciated.

By the way, the iMac is the 17 inch model.
 
well it's an ok price yeah.

If you can come up with $325 more...just get yourself the lowend 20" refurb off the apple site for $999.00

That will at least have a 1 yr warranty and you can get apple care for it.

I guarantee the refurb is MUCH better than the one you are looking at with a bigger screen and more power.
 
Show up with $600 cash. People tend to think differently when you have cash being shown and you might get yourself a better deal. If not, you're only out a trip.
 
Thanks again guy and gals for the suggestion. I am thinking that if I can get the iMac for $600 it would be a good deal. But the seller refused to budge. Saying that his iMac is prestine, so I am just still debating about it. The iMac will be part of a project to convert my mother in law to the mac side. I guess I'll talk it over with the other family members again......
 
In these situations I check powermax.com and macofalltrades.com. If the price he's offering is less than what the sites sell -shipping, then yes it's a good deal
