With gaming, a good sound card is almost good as a good video card (in that the sound card will carry the load of the audio rather than the processor). On the PC I've seen better game performance from switching soundcards out. However, since switching to the Mac (about 9 months ago) I've seen soundcards practically never mentioned in specs or talked about anywhere other than with audio pros. Specifically where does Apple get their audio chips from? Or where can I find this data? It seems that the early accounts of UT2k3 performing badly was due to the number of audio channels being 16 instead of a lower number, 8 to be handled by the Mac sound card.
