Anybody dabble in Feng Shui?

Now I am probably the most logically thinking person you will most likely meet and I don't go for superstitions, paranormal and myths etc. I way up the evidence and make my own decisions based on facts. It's just the way I am. However I visited a house the other day and it was laid out utilising Feng Shui techniques and well to put it bluntly I felt great being in that room but just couldn't put my finger on why. So 'to gather my own evidence' I would like to experiment with it and note the results.

So I've just done a little bit of digging about Feng Shui, not much mind just enough to grab the very basics of placement and directions etc and I have my kua number of 2 to relate to the directions and stuff. Something I can't figure out though is the directions i.e. placing a cure so that it faces South West. Does that SW relate to the room or the earth?

The bagua map (The one i have anyway) says to place the map so the entry point into the room is at the bottom of the map. Is this entry point used as the directional basis i.e. is the entry point classed as south?

Totally random and weird I know but I'm intrigued by this now. 😱

If different Feng Shui experts cant come to the same conclusions, not even close, it must not actually be at all remotely real. 🙄

Possibly, but like I said i like to make my own conclusions. I usually would dismiss something like this because it is easy to do so as their are no tangible results however there was something about the room and the guy was harping on about feng shui and chi etc. So now I'm curious to see if the guy was in fact talking 'bull****' as you put it or whether there may be something to it. An experiment if you will.

I could be wrong, but I think that the points of the compass are in relation to the orientation of the room; eg: The door (or point of entry) is North, so SW would be the back right corner as you enter.

That's because the people they ask aren't really experts at all.

I think if you went to China and spoke to a Feng Shui expert who's NOT making enough money off rich gullible white people to drive an Aston Martin, he'd probably know. 😉 I don't really know how so many people have made money off of this, but they have, and it's amazing.

I don't know which directions I should put my things, but my mum knows some basic things, and the rooms do look better, and we probably wouldn't rearrange the furniture in an attempt to try and improve things. That's it for my family. 😉

So, what you're telling me is, that an opinion of how the room looks and whether it actually improves your health/well-being/income/et cetera are now the same thing? And that people who don't make money off Feng Shui actually have a solid science behind the concept that can actually improve your life in some non-placebo way?

Some of the stuff in Feng Shui is actually good advice, like not siting with your back to a door.

But there is nothing in Feng Shui that you couldn't work out yourself without just a bit of common sense.

Yea, I got that from the godfather...I think.

Dont sit with your back to the door, always a wall...then no one can sneak up on you or shoot you in the back.

See, Feng Shui can save your life!
 
The way I see it, Feng Shui is whatever you want to make it. If you want to embrace it, do that. If you want to be delusional, do that, too. It doesn't take FS to be delusional - attachments to anything, material or not material, make you mentally sick.

Sometimes you walk into a space and you feel 'right'. Sometimes it's the opposite: something's wrong. FS is interesting to me because it recognizes the importance of that phenomenon in the first place.

Penn & Teller are cool. You don't always have to agree with them, either. I saw that episode, too. But, Macboobs, your experience is what counts. Not mine, not P&T's. Yours.

Have fun with your experiments and don't let people brow-beat you into not even trying. Even if you end up rejecting it, you can't reject something you don't know anything about.
 
If you noticed, the casinos in China and Macau are all designed with feng sui in mind. The business owners sometimes even keep children spirits to help them win at tables. Which is why, some asians would drop sweets on the floor before they make their bets, to please those 'children'.
 
How It Works

Ok. I just got a Mac computer and was looking for a compatible Feng Shui program, when I came across this forum. I am a licensed Interior designer, and I studied Feng Shui on my own last year for fun. The whole premise is based upon the energy and pull of the earth and how it relates to each individual as well as each dwelling. Your Kua number is the number given to you based upon your birthday. As for the directions, it is based upon actual compass directions. The books will reference your front door as being due North, because ideally that is the direction it should be. If you were building a house yourself and had an option, that would be the most desirable direction. The bottom of the Bagua should be placed over your front door, when Feng Shui-ing your house. And at the entrance to a room, when doing a room. Hope this helps..😉
 
Personally, I think it's a matter of how much you believe in it. Naturally, if you believe in feng shui, arrange your environment accordingly, you would feel good about it. Positive thinking works wonder in whatever you do.

I'm all in favour to putting houses and things in a way that they don't fall over ("pull of the earth"), and having electricity where I need it is also a fine thing. I suppose, that makes me a Feng-Shuigan as well...
