My MacBook is getting extreamly warm, i've had it a while & i updated to Leopard. I only have 512mb ram.

But when i run multiple programs the CPU temp reaches 83 C.
Is this safe? Or is it because i don't have much ram?

Christ.

Do you think it'd be cooler with more ram?

yes it will run cooler with more ram.

maybe go up to 2 gb and you will see a big difference. not only in temp. but in performance.

You need to get more RAM into that machine pronto! 512 MB just isn't enough for this day and age.

I also think you would benefit from SMC Fan Control (http://homepage.mac.com/holtmann/eidac/software/page5/page5.html). It's a nifty little app that allows you to control the fan speeds, so you can prevent your macbook from reaching extremes in temperature.

I installed 4 GB of ram in my 1 GB factory equipped Macbook and the operating temp went UP slightly. Checked with 3 different techs who said this is normal as is fairly high operating temps for Macbooks. It's the reason they stress calling them "Notebooks" instead of "Laptops"now, as they are a bit toasty for the legs. Would be interested to hear follow-up as to if your ram increase lowered operating temp. If it does I have some pretty sharp computer techs to question.
