Possible to disable spellcheck for certain words? Or make the iPhone learn words?

when you are typing and it suggests a word, pressing the "x" to get the suggestion to go away is supposed to make the phone learn the word. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. As far as I know there isn't a way to manually add words to the dictionary.

Ok..it doesn't seem to be 'learning' some words. Oh well, thanks
 
keep trying... if you type your word and decline the suggestion enough times, it will eventually learn them...

another thing i found is that it will learn words found in your address book more easily - so that's good with my name and friends' nicknames etc
