Backing up iTunes movies

This is a really inane question but I cannot seem to find a thread anywhere to answer it properly.

I have an Imac G5 (the version before the Intel drive). I have been buying iTunes movies, not just renting. I have backed them up, but wondered: should I also remove them from my Hard Drive? The files are big.

How have you back up the movies?

If you want to be able to view your movies, but not take up space on your internal drive, you can transfer your movies to an external hard drive and play them from there.

That's basically what I thought I'd need to do. I just needed the direction. I've been a mac user for a long time but kind of careless when it comes to managing my iTunes library. Any suggestions on an external?

I have a Western Digital My Book that works well. I've read other people who like WD, too.
