When did you buy your macbook? The original ones took a maximum of 2GB, the later ones took a max of 3GB, and the newer ones take a max of 4GB.

I bought it in May. I know it does support 4GB of RAM because it was an option on there webpage well before I purchased my MacBook.

I bought that off of Newegg last week. Took all of 3 days to show up. 4GB of RAM is perfect when I am running my Vista VM and other apps on the Mac OS, but yes, 4GB of RAM can be overkill as at idle I have over 3GB Free.

How does one go about checking how much memory their Macbook can take? Or do you just go by the date of purchase?

There is no such thing as too much RAM.

I bought it a few days ago for my wife's Macbook(she doesn't really need it, but for $40 I couldn't pass it up). I wish they had this price when I bought mine a few months ago. One of the best deals on the internet IMO.

Sounds like a good deal, but when I tried to check out their warranty it gave no answer, said contact Frye ??? I buy memory from OWC ( macsales.com).
They specialize in Apple supplies. They also feature a lifetime warranty on all their memory and should it fail, you call and they ship out replacement parts immediately. You ship the defective parts back when you replace them with the new. 4GB will run you $94, but warranty may be an issue for you as it is for me.

Crucial RAM comes with a lifetime warranty also. Crucial also has a lot of Apple users using their RAM.
Fry's is a very legit and respected online store(they also have retail stores).

Just because you opted for 2gb, then so be it. The fact that 4gb is $40, might be overkill NOW, but 6 months down the line who knows, and at that price it is a NO-BRAINER.

I don't know if they have that now. Maybe during black friday, but that's pretty doubtful.

I ordered from them, got my order in like 2-3 days. Came in new and worked perfectly on my macboook. I think they are a more west coast based company.

they have stores in the Dallas area. But they constantly sell used broken stuff, and try to pass it off as new.

I lived in Dallas for 10 yrs.. I shopped there numerous times(I think it is on Executive). Everything they sell is new unless it states otherwise. It is easy to tell if a package has been messed with.
I also shopped at the one in Houston. Once again no problems.
Fry's is a large corporation(hell they sponsor a PGA Tour event) and if what you just said is true(which it isn't--it is BS) they would have been put out of business a long time ago.

+1 I've shopped at the one in Atlanta and never had a problem. They frequently have unadvertised deals in store. They only issue I've ever had is long lines and the silly bag check at the exit.

Meh, depends on what your doing. If your running Parallels or Fusion then 4GB is not really overkill. I have the stock 1GB right now and its PAAAAINFUL to run Parallels and try to do anything else. Just got my 4GB kit in today :)

I ordered this Crucial 4GB of RAM(for the wife's Macbook) and a 4GB flash drive from Fry's 2 days ago and got it today. Fast service. I told my friend about it and he tried to order it today. They are sold out now. I'm sure they will get back on sale soon.
