It may seem obvious, but bringing an iMac to an apple genius is a little different than bringing a laptop. I just want to know what I can expect. Like where do I go? Will I go into a backroom and have to set it up?

I've never done it, but I've seen people bring them in and they just set them up on the counter right at the genius bar.

It's no different than bringing any other Mac really.

The Genius bar's counter is usually very big.
Last time I went to the Apple store, I saw a guy with a Mac Pro and the Genius just examined it right on the counter.

Put it in the box the computer came in; it will make things so much easier.

Ummm...carry the computer in, set it up on the bar. Don't bring any cords whatsoever, they have everything.
It's pretty easy.

They will help you get it out of the car too. My Apple store is inside a mall, and if you call them, they will bring a cart out to help carry it in. My girlfriend did this before on her 24 iMac.

Yeah I found this out way AFTER I lugged mine inside. The handle felt a little loose so I held it up to my chest the whole way in.

it's easy as pie. Once I took an iMac DV Purple into the genius bar...now that was something else. Please came up and were looking at it like it was some ancient piece of computing.

Try hauling a mac pro through a parking garage and through a mall since you couldnt remember where the closest point to the mac store was from the parking garage.
I walked through front door with that thing against my chest and the front greeter was like "right this way sir let me help you" I was tired:(

This reminds me of the time my friend Steven and I had to haul a Mac Pro and an xServe through the Northridge mall to the apple store. I was carrying the xServe and it was kind of embarrassing (those things are HEAVY) but it kind of makes you feel important. :D

So I only need to bring the computer itself? Do I need to bring the keyboard, mouse or even power cord?

Not really, but you might as well bring the power chord.

Bring nothing, so there's no worry about anything being lost, misplaced or stolen. Just your computer.

Haha...this thread reminds me of this one guy that had an iMac in a box in his hand and proceeded to go down the escalator. He then set the iMac down next to him as he was going down the escalator only to have the iMac tumble down a good 4-5 steps in front of him.
Quite a tragic story.
