Warning updating apps, since 2.02

Earlier today I logged on to the App store through my iPhone 3G. Firmware 2.02.

The download started but half way through, my iPhone crashed. I attempted a reboot but got stuck on the Apple boot screen.

I attempted to reboot several times but nothing. I plugged it in to iTunes which then crashed.

I took it in to the Apple store, they plugged it in to their laptop and iTunes crashed. They couldn't fix it.

They replaced it now problem.

I've just read another user have what sounds like the same issue, updating the movie app.

Anybody else had this issue?

Was updating Picture Vault, Recorder and Ambiance last night and CRASH. Tried to restore in iTunes....CRASH...Gone. Could not restore from backup, had to restore as new iPhone. 3rd time since 2.0 was released.

SUPER SOFTWARE APPLE...NOT!!!
Apple software is now completely like my WM software...Great!
 
Crazy.

iTunes would crash for me instantly upon plugging the iPhone in, so I couldn't even do a fresh install.

I hope to god Apple sort this out, as you say it feels more like WM.

The problems are building up. I hope Apple focus on fixes rather than new features to boast with. Get 2.0.x works flawlessly, PLEASE.

Same here...so I had to use the following to finally get it to be recognized properly and might as well forget the restore with backup and just restore as new iPhone as it will save you about 2-3 hours.

RESTORE IPHONE:
Step-by-Step

1) Close all programs and restart computer.
2) Open iTunes and plug in powered off iPhone with direct USB connection.
3) If iTunes fails to connect to iPhone...continue to #4, if it does...restore.
4) Shut DOWN iTunes again.
5) Power OFF the iPhone & Disconnect from computer. (Power off two ways-one will work, hold home and sleep button until off or just hold sleep button until off)
6) Hold down Home button & connect to computer using direct connected USB cable (keep holding down the home button until iTunes sees it).
7) It should go into recovery mode and iTunes should recognise it.
8) If you want to recover to previous software version, Hold Alt/Shift and click restore in iTunes. Then select the old update version.

DFU MODE:
Step-by-Step

1. Turn the iPhone ON
2. CONNECT it to the computer with a DIRECT USB connection.
3. Make sure iTunes is open so you'll know when it enters DFU mode.
4. HOLD the Power/Sleep-Wake button AND the Home button for 10 seconds.
5. RELEASE only the Power/Sleep-Wake button and continue to hold the Home button.
6. WAIT until iTunes recognizes the phone in DFU Restore mode (in Windows a bubble pops up saying it recognized new hardware "DFU Mode" or something to that effect)
The last step may take SOME TIME, like, say, even 60 seconds or so.
The screen should be OFF (black), if you see the "Connect to iTunes" logo, START OVER.
It may take a few tries to do the steps just right, just reboot

I've probably had to do this process 10-15 times since 2.0 came out

:apple: needs to get their act together and come out with stability before new features.

How can you insult WM like that?!? My old WM phone never crashed like this 🙁 I never wound up with a phone I had to reset/restore this often, power reset every so often sure.

I'm on my 5th restore within a week. I should stop using App Store on my phone I guess. This time (doing a restore right now), was an app update and it hung on the install. Stuck at the apple... I used to be able to kick the phone of this, doesn't seem to let me anymore. I almost feel like I need to jailbreak in order to be able to recover it without restoring...
 
I had this same problem last Friday, updating Tetris on 2.0.2.

No joke, the phone just came back to life after 5 hours of the Apple BSoD
