All though there are some good ideas in there, most of them can not be built either because you would have to work with the owner(copyright reasons) or it's not currently possibly using the SDK. Maybe I should have phrased my question,

"What app would you like to see that is currently possible and would not infringe on any copyrights?" :D

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5C1 Safari/525.20)

How about a pages/word compatible text editor. Currently everything in the app store is note based. As a writer I would prefer a more structured based app. Where a menu at the bottom of the screen has options like novel, ideas/notes, web links etc. Touching novel would bring up a list menu like in mail were you can tap to open the corisponding text file. Just my preference though I have no idea what the Market for one would be like

PLEASE! Build a webcam app that works with the panasonic video cameras so that you don't have to use their website to view your webcam through safari. An iPhone app that did this would make me very happy. I'd be willing to bet that Panasonic would pay you a hefty sum to develop it for them as it would be sure to spur camera sales...

Currently there are no Christian hymnals for the iPhone. This would be really easy to build and the lyrics for the hymns are free for anyone to use. I would suspect that alot of Christians would appreciate this app so that they can take their hymns anywhere. And if you really wanted to make the app appealing you could allow users to submit hymns to your site and then download them onto the program in case their are some hymns that you forget to include.

It would kill the battery because you would have to change your settings to no auto lock and thus it would leave the screen on. Probably only get 1.5-2 hours of runtime doing this. Not a bad idea though.

1) an app that uses your contact picture to make a call shortcut on he home page. something that can have multiple buttons?

2) a gym work out tracker where you can make up your own work out plans (with any excercises) and log your every weight and rep. from there you can export it to see how you are progressing. For all excercises (input either time, weight, hardness level or speed) against time (weeks for instance).

3) Use tfl (transport for london) journey planer as an app (there is a website embed button under it). The results to be iphone sizes, this isnt difficult as the workings are in the link supplied. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/widgets/?CMP=widget-banner&banner=jppanel-/home.aspx

European football league scores (soccer) with live goal updates and the ability to choose a selection of teams to get notifications of a goal for those teams. Check out livescores.com for an example of what I mean. The killer thing though would be the notification options. The ifooty iPhone app is showing potential but it's info comes from a crappy source (BBC). If livescores.com or maybe skysports.coms data could be used it would be much better.

Please, if possible, I'd love to see an app that can view my DirecTV guide while I'm at home. And also control the box (the directv box is hooked up to ethernet). Tell it to record shows, change channels, etc. I know you can do this via the remote, but it's nice to not have to clutter the tv screen while browsing around for what to watch. also would be nice to have a better interface for the directv website. the current mobile interface is terrible.

An app that would provide easy/quick access for viewing Kaboodle (http://www.kaboodle.com)lists would very much appreciated by Kaboodle users.

An example of a Kaboodle list is one that consists of items you have found on other websites that you are thinking of purchasing, complete with hyperlinks and pictures. Another example of a Kaboodle list might consist of apartments you have found on sites such as craigslist.com or the local newspaper's website. Having access to these types of list, per the example, comes in very handy when shopping at a brick-and-mortar store or when driving around looking at apartments to rent.

I have emailed the company and it seems that they have interest in having the app developed, yet I got the impression that they would prefer to have an outside programmer create the app. If you're interested, I suggest you contact them.

I can tell you what I would definitely love to see made for the iPhone- and that's a multiplayer (using WiFi most likely, though running it over the cell network shouldn't be that hard either...) real Mah Jongg game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mah_jongg). The full, 4-players-required (though having computer opponents would definitely be helpful...) version is notably absent in the sea of 'tile matching' games, and it seems to me that the iPhone would be a very good platform for running a real Mah Jongg game.

Run in landscape mode, you could easily display each player's hand and a representation of the wall and the currently discarded pile. Flipped to vertical mode, you could display a smaller version of the player's hand and the other player's hands (i.e., blank tiles for how many are in their hand and what they have played visibly). Touching and dragging up tiles to discard or play would be intuitive (the ability to 'flick' the tile to discard would be fun, along with an animation of the tile falling onto the table).

It would take a fair bit of programming- especially for computer players- but I think it would be a lot of fun to have, and it would be great to be able to play a game on the road or someplace where it's inconvenient to pull out a full Mah Jongg set (OK, so you'd need 4 people with iPhones, but :P). :)

Well maybe think of something original on your own, and besides whats so new about whats being covered in this thread, that hasn't been covered in any other 'what app do you want' thread?? There's about fifty app request threads, why not just flip through them, it's not that difficult is it? Besides, half the ideas people contribute here are specific to them, everyone may not want the best note taking app ever made, as some people can give a shiz. All i am saying is, you asked a question that has been responded to hundreds if not thousands of times in other threads. ;)

Sort of like this site http://www.allbowling.com/journal/ does, but native to the touch/phone. There are millions of bowlers in the world. I would pay $2.99 no problem for this app.

I think turn by turn gps would be amusing for 2 minutes.
I mean how useful would that be on a day to day basis?
It would be great to have on a road trip or if you are traveling often for say work but I'm assuming most of us here have daily patterns in our lives that wouldn't really necessitate turn by turn gps. So what I'm saying is that what you covet most is like the rest of the apps you are dissing.

So in the end quality/usefulness is all subjective.

I really applaud all the developers out there who are trying to make the iPhone a viable platform.

I've lived in SoCal for over 5 years, and I still use my GPS a few times a week, and find it vital a few times per month. Traffic info on GPS requires a subscription, but is already available on the iPhone 3G, and really adds a big advantage. I think turn by turn GPS is a no-brainer.

Anyway, I agree that it's all subjective, I just disagree with your example. :)
