Sorry if the mods would prefer that discussion on this should be discontinued. Just thought you all might like to read the IM conversation I had with him.

NetGuy1115 (5:01:52 PM): send the money to...
NetGuy1115 (5:02:12 PM): Pablo Figueroa Jr., 1002 Capitol Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06606
NetGuy1115 (5:02:21 PM): 1102 Capitol ave.
NetGuy1115 (5:02:28 PM): not 1002
NetGuy1115 (5:02:32 PM): made a mistake
NetGuy1115 (5:02:55 PM): I'll be waiting and will ship as soon as i get the money
NetGuy1115 (5:03:05 PM): I got a cousin who works at UPS
appleguy9990 (5:03:14 PM): ok, how should i send the money
NetGuy1115 (5:03:33 PM): that's why i can afford to ship these for free and to you it's all in the cost
NetGuy1115 (5:03:35 PM): ok...
NetGuy1115 (5:03:59 PM): Money order sound ok?
NetGuy1115 (5:03:59 PM): in this case it would be money order(s)
NetGuy1115 (5:04:08 PM): i know there's a limit on them, right?
appleguy9990 (5:04:21 PM): I'm not sure
NetGuy1115 (5:04:30 PM): oh
NetGuy1115 (5:04:46 PM): well even if there is, you can make a couple
appleguy9990 (5:04:54 PM): also, i need your email so i can contact you
NetGuy1115 (5:05:02 PM): you got it
appleguy9990 (5:05:19 PM): and would it be possible to get the serial numbers of the computers off of the boxes?
NetGuy1115 (5:05:31 PM): netguy1115@aol.com or pfjr83@yahoo.com or pifg99@hotmail.com
NetGuy1115 (5:06:00 PM): hmmm i don't see any serial numbers on the boxes
NetGuy1115 (5:06:05 PM): I got these from Comp USA
NetGuy1115 (5:06:10 PM): maybe that's why
appleguy9990 (5:06:39 PM): hmm, maybe... just out of curiosity, why don't you want them
NetGuy1115 (5:06:49 PM): i need a PC
NetGuy1115 (5:07:06 PM): isn't that always the reason to give up the Mac, such a nice computer...
NetGuy1115 (5:07:11 PM): lol
NetGuy1115 (5:07:48 PM): what i really want is a athlon fx falcon
appleguy9990 (5:07:56 PM): perhaps....ok well i'll get right on sending the money and i'll send an email your way to confirm it, that cool?
NetGuy1115 (5:08:03 PM): falcon northwest with the big athlon fx logo on the side
NetGuy1115 (5:08:20 PM): sounds good to me
NetGuy1115 (5:08:29 PM): overnight, right?
appleguy9990 (5:08:49 PM): i'll send it as fast as possible
NetGuy1115 (5:08:56 PM): hmmm, ok
NetGuy1115 (5:09:10 PM): take care now and be careful out there with all that money
NetGuy1115 (5:09:19 PM): i'll be waiting...
appleguy9990 (5:09:24 PM): will do, gotta go...later
NetGuy1115 (5:09:29 PM): bye

Sorry if it's hard to read. Make of it what you will. Seems to me like he might have them, but that they might be stolen.

Matt

if you really send this kid your money you are dumber than I ever imagined. I mean there isn't a good way to be secure but if your really this gullable use postal money orders and make it one large one. if he commits fraud using a postal money order the feds get interested. they can track where he cashed it with what ID /account .

theres a reason the thread went to the wasteland, your going to lose your cash and never get a g5 but thats your call

Don't count on it. The "Feds" and most local cops don't touch internet scams like this. You will be out your money and that's it.

thats true if your using wire transfer or other things .. but the US postal money order is a precious thing .... they don't liek fraud committed with their docuemnts

HA! Um.....yeah. I guess you thought I was fairly stupid before. Thanks. Hmm....

To clear up any questions here, no I never planned on sending the kid a cent. Heck, I don't even have money to spend on a scam like this even if I was that stupid.

Anyway, I dropped the police in Bridgeport an email about the situation. I might be the first person to ever have emailed a police department, but I guess there's a first time for everything. I suppose I could have called them, but that's long distance so I passed on it. Usually the police aren't too interested in these things so we'll see if they do anything about it.

Matt

Edit: On a side note, I'm not sure why everyone seems so angry about the fact that I posted this. I'm not looking for a pat on the back or anything for finding a scammer. It was quite obviously a scam. I just wanted to see the story the guy was telling. If you don't care you don't have to post a response. My apologies to everyone on the board who was put off by this thread.

First it was his uncle who works at UPS, now his cousin.

What a surprise. Well with some of the inbreeding in some of these "very close" families... the guy could very well be both.

mkubal, the problem I have is that your throwing fuel on the flame. by bringing this back up its more possible that someone sees it and falls for it. I remember a few months after one company Marabella technolgies ripped a bunch of people off and there and an extensive thread, a few months later people posted asking for their info again simply because they only read the big bold print not the details

You have a point, but it all comes back to people being stupid. What I posted originally didn't make it any easier for people to fall for the scam than the original thread did. That thread can still be viewed. If it's that big of a deal then both of these threads should be outright deleted. That's up to the mods and if they see the same problem you do then I encourage them to delete it.

Not trying to start any problems here. It was only FYI for those who had posted in the original thread.
