i am thinking of getting a cube from my friends dad's office.

what upgrades would be necessary for it to be one bad mofo cube.

i don't mean for it to be some ultra gaming machine that is like crunching sick fps, but i want it to be something that will last for quite a while maybe another 3 years.

its pure stock

Ram for sure! ram is probably the best upgrade you can do for the cheapest price. But for sure you want to put in about another 512 ram in it.

mayhaps a cpu upgrade to say a 1Ghz G4, and a nice after market Radeon to support quartz extreme, or you can go with a Geforce#MX card that might be cheaper.

my .02 cents

If you haven't already, check out www.cubeowner.com.

They've got tons of suggestions.

Some graphics cards will be easier to install than others. Cubeowner has recommendations for this as well.

you dont need to flash the card if it's a mac version I you use a flased pc one they usually burn out your better off geting the mac version but then again for the price of an oem gforce 2 you can get a radon 9000 that fit's all you have to do is move the dc/dc bord it's not that hard ive done it.

if you go for the radeon you have two options get a fan or cut a hole in your deskto let air come up through the cube it reduces the heat by an amazing ammount you can run the radeon fannless without cutting your desk but not for extended periods and definetly not for games I would not recommend this.

so your choices are:-

radeon 9000+fan or hole in desk

$169

or

dogey pc gforce2 + fan and hole in the desk

or

mac gforce 2
$200

I would get the radeon and cut the hole in the desk

cutting a hole in your desk will prolong the life of your cube I highly recommend it
