Sorry i'm a noob at jailbroken phones and am just now learning.

I've figured I should just not update the software that apple puts out and wait until the developers jailbreak it then I should update it, but will syncing it every time I hook it to my laptop do any harm to my iphone?

No, that should be fine. Just make sure you don't update. (iTunes will prompt you before it attempts to update your iPhone)
