"Bloomberg published an obituary for Apple CEO Steve Jobs after the closing bell on Wednesday and quickly retracted it. Amid all the rumors of Jobs’ and his pancreatic cancer Bloomberg’s timing couldn’t have been worse. However, the Bloomberg incident may reveal that rumors about Jobs’ health are intensifying..."

Whoopsie!

The same thing happened with Mark Twain, didn't it? Red faces all around, I'd imagine; apologies, too.

Uh, this has NOTHING to do with why Bloomberg has a Jobs obit on hand, just to be clear.

The Andy Dick comment made me laugh. He came to my college one time, went out to the bars in town, and then got arrested for public drunkenness.. LOL.

Anyways, even if this was an accident, it still has to hurt a little. I mean, way to kick a man when he's down, you know? My jaw dropped when I first read this, but was happy to read it was a mistake. I think he's an awesome guy, and would love to meet him.

Many of them. It saves a lot of preparation, and sloppy (and rushed) research. Just as long as they are accurate, I don't mind the fact that they are written in advance (and doubtless updated fairly frequently). I recall reading a good few years ago that the late Lord Mountbatten dropped into some of the prominent papers in the UK some time before he was murdered to check the accuracy of his own obituary. Recently, an obit for a member of Kennedy's Cabinet in the most prestigious Irish daily managed to get the year of Bobby Kennedy's assassination wrong. Twice. When I phoned to correct them, they wanted to know what my "agenda" was. My "agenda" was simple. Accuracy in the paper of record, I told them.

Pretty much every prominent figure and this goes for ALL news orgs.

Exactly. That's it.
Cheers

As this story picks up more steam, down goes AAPL on a day that is largely positive for the market.

Keith Richards isn't embalmed, he's cryogenically preserved.

Can you say insider trading? Paranoid maybe but with all these Hedge funds going under I can see someone getting a few thousand for releasing it. If it would have stayed out longer a good day drop in stock prices and short sales followed by the rapid gain when you hear its fake would have made a killing. Looks like that manager lost out with it getting pulled that fast.

After careful examination of the evidence, I now believe Keith is actually smoked, like a salmon. Dick Clark is frozen; Kirk Douglas was bronzed; Hugh Hefner can't die (but will get stiff); and Andy Rooney IS dead, but hasn't figured it out.

SJ will not die, but his mind will evolve into an operating system that will not be compatible with his current carbon based hardware platform after MacWorld 2012.

That's exactly what I thought. I'd love to read my own obituary, especially if I was a high-profile figure.

Then again, I'm studying medicine because you rarely get a chance to (legally) cut up dead bodies, so maybe you want to disagree with me.
