i've been a palm treo user, then windows mobile user until finally switching to the iphone. the iphone is by far the best platform i've used, but there are some programs that i had on the windows mobile device that i miss. what apps do you want to see or miss from previous phones?
apps i wish to see on the iphone:
- magicall : rules based call and sms filtering. i used to be able to pick up
and hang up based on phone patter (like all 800 calls)... or make it go
directly to voicemail without any intervention.
http://www.mobiion.com/magicall.html
- pocket informant : i think i've seen their website and the are working on an
iphone version
- some kind of network utility that allows me to do pings, etc...
- phonealarm : phone profiles, custom alarms for sms, email, etc. also
something that allows it to remind me that i missed a text message, or a
voicemail. right now, unless you constantly are looking at your iphone, you
may not know you missed a call. so simple beep every 5 minutes up to
5 times would be cool. (as an example)

iwork certainly would be nice. I wouldn't use it but know some friends that could.
I imagine Apple must be making some major apps like this because there is nothing left to do with the hardware. If they don't make some major software improvements the iPhone will be yesterdays news soon.

Word, works whatever but I need a wp.
A slide to call slider which can me configured to call somebody when you slide to unlock so you slide to call so and so. There could be several sliders set up eg more slide to calls of slide to email etc.
It's too diddly to make a call particularly when driving

if you are serious about this, i would really like to see an app that can filter calls or sms based on rules you set.

Both of those are impossible using the current SDK.

that you can customize workouts according to your goals...that doesn't have a monthly subscription fee.
If I wanted a monthly fee, I would hire a personal trainer. :D
In the app:
-You would be able to set up workouts, with sets/reps targeted to different body specific areas.
-Charts to moniter progress/timeline
-maybe a sister app, or calorie intake integrated into it to show effectiveness of workouts...or work with setting up the workouts, according to how many calories you need to burn.
I may be a slight picky...but i never know what to do once i get to the gym. :o

Personally am really looking forward to Pocket Informant oming out. I've been using it on my Blackjack II since January and I think it'll be a great addition to the iPhone.
I would also like to see an app that can edit or create Office or iWork documents. I wouldn't be surprised if the people that make Documents to Go are working on something. If they are, that'll be great.

is there an app, preferrably free, that you can set alarm reminders for? the built in clock alarm is good for simple stuff. but i'd like something where i can set a reminder every 15th of the month, or the 1st monday of every month, etc etc...
and no, i don't want to use the built in calendar app because thats syncing with my work exchange mailbox. these reminders are personal reminders and i do not want it syncing to my work mailbox especially since i share my calendar to colleagues and there's no way on the built in app that i can say make private.

ok hows about an iphone photo uploader to zenfolio? i see that almost every other photosite has some kind of uploader, flickr, smugmug, photobucket, picasa, etc etc but no zenfolio... i hate to keep uploading 1 photo at a time via email to either myself or friends. would be good if i could mass upload, even 10 pics at one time to my zenfolio page.

No. It would have to run in the background or the developer would have to run a server and we'd need push notification for something like that to work.

Having enjoyed playing Billy Frontier, I reckon a port of Virtua Cop (or another shooter on rails) could be a lot of fun.

Myst (yes, I know it's coming, but when?)
Riven
Phantasmagoria
The Beast Within
Kings Quest VII
Curse of Monkey Island (and other games from the series)
Grim Fandango
Hopefully there are some people out there who were alive when these games were popular - I loved them (well, not Phantasmagoria, it was too scary for me - my grandma of all people played this game) and think the iPhone/iPod Touch would be a near perfect place for a port. The issue of course would be the size of videos - The Best Within for instance had quite a few video cut scenes. But I bet the videos could be compressed to the point that the game could fit in a 300-500 megabyte package. Grim Fandango graphics could probably be rendered on the iPod Touch. One small issue would be click on "small things" in the game, so a direct port of some of these may not be possible....
I'd probably be willing to spend 20+ dollars on any one of these games, in particular Myst/Riven/Curse of Monkey Island/ok probably all of them.
Of course this is unlikely to happen, but I'd still love to see it.

WinterBoard is for Jail Broken iphones. It would be nice to have a program to change icons and such with a non-broken iphone.

Not allowed by the SDK agreement. Apps may not run any code not compiled into the main app or act as an interpreter for code. So no emulators can be written.

I was just thinking about this the other day.
A friend of mine sent me an MMS message for the first time, and of course, I was redirected to that horrible AT&T web page where I had to log in with a random login ID and password they texted me, to view the image (that was then not even downloadable on my PC without doing a screen capture first, since right-click to save was disabled!).
Then I needed to send them a photo back, again via MMS (since their computer was broken and all they had was a phone that had no email with attachment functionality).
I wound up using a free web site offering the capability. (There are several out there if you Google for "free MMS".)
So then, I started thinking: What about somebody building an iPhone app that sends and receives MMS messages using this round-about method? Maybe it could present users with a friendly front-end, allowing selection of a photo from the phone to send, etc. - but actually just fills in the proper things on the above-mentioned web site, to let *it* do the actual delivery of the MMS message? And to "receive" them, have it auto log you into AT&T's site where they're supposed to be received, but find a way to "scrape the web page HTML" to pull the media content you desire and paste it back into the phone's photo storage?
Doable??
Not possible in the App Store unless Apple themselves makes it.

I'm happy to see somebody remembers these thing. I'm 23, but sometimes I wonder if I'm "getting old" in forum years.
Anyway, a port of the monkey island series doesn't seem totally out of the question, maybe someday we'll get lucky!
