I did a fsck check today on my boot volume, and I got the following error message:

ASC: rWPM WARNING: couldn't find IO Platform Monitor

What does this mean? What should I do?

This is my work computer, and I run a small business, so losing data would be disasterous.

Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations.

(My Mac is a 17" PB)

try running fsck -y again to see if it was fixed in the last run. backing up all of your crucial files is a good idea, but may be a little extreme at this point (that's not to say you shouldn't do it you may want to search the support database at apple's site for information.

Backups are always a good idea, no matter what. Why were you running fsck? If you ran it "for the hell of it" might this be a case of "if it ain't broke don't fix it?"
