Can Windows read iPod HDD?

I want to recommend to a colleague they buy an iPod and a Belkin card reader so they can download their digital photos to the iPod when on the go.

But when they get home, they have a WinTel PC. Can it read the HDD on the iPod to get the pics off it? Do you need a special software or driver?

works just like on a MAC

if you have itunes running on the PC then you have to enable the disk mode in itunes(like you would on OSX)

and if you don't have itunes installed then it just mounts as a removable drives.
