No. Next year, we have to buy next years app. Each MLB app is only good for that year. That's what I read anyway when I bought the app.

I know the description says it's good for the remainder of the year but I thought that there was potentially a chance that it would still be good. Guess that's too nice of MLB.

What an incredible update. It didn't show for me in the updates, but I just deleted the app from my screen and re-downloaded to get it.
This is how it should have been in the beginning. (And if it didn't improve to this level I definitely would not have purchased the app for next season.)

So if this one expires on Feb. 23rd, then what are we to do between Feb. 24th and April 1st? Am I missing something here? Not sure about anyone else but it'd be cool to have this app work during Spring Training.
This being said, I'm loving where this app is going and MLB is doing a brilliant job with this. Plus, this gives me more ammunition when discussing marketing in sports in some of my classes in school. Being a sport management major is fun. :)
Looking forward to this new version!

One thing I'm wondering is if audio will be built into the application or if they will just provide an area to enter your account information for the mlb.com gameday audio. I'm hoping you don't need an mlb.com subscription.

I can't imagine the MLB giving away Gameday with the app unless they include the price into the app. If Gameday Audio is $14.95 and the app was $4.99 last year, a $20 price for the season isn't that bad. I would buy it for that price.

At least they are allowing us to keep lite for the 2009 season. It says on the app page that the lite version will have scoreboards and stuff of the regular season and the playoffs. We just don't get the pitch by pitch and audio stuff but still sounds like a app that is worth douwloading even if there are TONS of other scoreboard apps out there

I was very pleased with last years version. The gameday audio will be awesome. My only complaint is that the video quality on edge/3g was terrible and the wifi version was amazing. There should be a preference where the user selects which version to stream. I would be more than happy to wait a little longer while I am on 3g for the wifi quality stream to load.

I've been waiting for this to come out! I was expecting $4.99 like last year, but balked (er...) at the $9.99 price. Still, audio and being able to pick which feed is awesome. I'm hoping the lag isn't too significant, but as long as I'm not competing with another source (muted TV, game blogging, etc.) that's no problem.

Yeah. I don't mean to be too negative. I think what they're offering for an extra $5 is definitely worth it. I'm debating buying it now or waiting until I don't get to hear the first game of the season and then buying it. Which I note is rather silly because I'll be buying it anyhow.

well, I bought it, but no way to test the audio feeds yet. Only one game today had gameday and there was no associated audio.
If the free version is the same, but minus the audio that's a great deal. If you want the audio, it's well worth it to upgrade.

I sure wish that those of us that already paid for MLB.tv premium, which includes audio, would get this for free or something. Unfortunately really no way to do it I guess.
Although, with the in-app purchasing thing coming, do you think next year they'll have it where you can buy audio from within upon trying to log in if you don't have an account already?
Just a hunch and discussion question.

Sounded maybe a tick better to me, but definitely not FM-quality. It was on par with the March Madness app's audio.
I only had the chance to check out the Braves feed on WiFi. Worked very well, and I didn't get any GSM buzz in the few minutes I had it docked on a radio. What were other experiences? I'm worried about getting the audio at work because of the signal, but I can usually get at least 2 bars. I'll probably find one of the afternoon games to check out for a bit while driving tomorrow.

The first way I read that, I thought you'd gone nuts. "I think it's still worth $9.99 for the other 161 games" went through my head. I don't want to say anything until I try it over EDGE. I think there's a game at 1 p.m. eastern, and plenty more later, so I can comment on it tonight.

Decided to roll the dice and go for the app last night after wunder radio worked like a charm and was great quality with no buffering on anything below 128kbs streams!
Sadly MLB: At Bat constantly buffers every few seconds and is pretty poor quality over GPRS. Didn't notice an improvement in quality over wi-fi either. Still think it's a great app but how come wunder radio can get much better quality streams over a worse connection?

when looking at the gameday screen, I can see the pitches as they happen, but when an at bat is finished, it will usually show you something like:
1. Nick Swisher singled to Center
Pitch 1 Called Strike
Pitch 2 In Play
but after an at bat finishes, the play by play goes blank, and doesn't show what the batter did. This happening to anyone else?

Love the app, except it is a real battery killer. Today I was listening (in a marginal signal area) with the phone plugged in to my computer's USB. Even with that, and the phone display off, I managed to drain my iPhone's battery. :(
Perhaps the phone is using extra juice searching for a signal, or I have an issue with the USB cable - but I've never seen an app that could drain the battery faster than the USB cable could charge.
