Is this a MiniDV camcorder? If so, get a firewire cable and use firewire.
Andrew.

Thanks Andrew but no it is not a MiniDV camcorder. it has it's own hard drive for storage.

I have a handycam as well, and all you need to do is find the folder with videos or pictures on the mounted Handycam and drag the files onto your computer.
I still havent figured out how to edit the videos with iMovie yet :( the format is in MPG but i guess iMovie doesnt like it. suggestions anyone?

You can import mpeg-2 format from your HDD camera directly into iMovie '08, which promptly converts it to a format in a .mov wrapper. If you are trying to get it into iMovieHD / '06, you need to first convert the mpeg-2 format to DV by using something like mpegstreamclip.
