Hearing this made me cringe. I would hate to be in the situation the article writer was in, needing to buy a new modem, only to find out that the one he got was refurbished AND uninitialized. Resellers need to make an effort at preventing this from happening otherwise innocent folks could be accused of identity theft.

I'm in the US, but my DSL provider was SO bad that when I cancelled my service and returned their router to them, I made SURE I wiped it first.

Guess I'm naturally paranoid :)
