Returning 3G, contract issues?

I did do a search and there was a similar question-but not a sufficient answer so I thought I'd ask:

I'm returning my 3G phone tomorrow and I'm still in the 30 day window.
This will void my new contract.

Will my old contract be reinstated or will I be free from ties to ATT?

It's fine either way-Only a little less than a year left and I love the iPhone. I need to switch to Verizon because where I live sucks for ATT, but Verizon has EVDO and great service...go figure.

I'd guess that your old contract would be reinstated.
