hi i have a first generation black macbook but recently the battery when low doesnt give a warning its low, im just working along and boom its off.

when i see about 20 mins of use left i lower the screen brightness and the time goes up to about 35 mins but will cut dead within a few minutes.

is there any known fix for this as its unreliable like this.

Sounds like the battery is not accurately reporting its capacity, as the OS will only alert you when the battery reports that it is at 10%. Resetting the PMU and refreshing the battery may fix this, but likely you have a bad cell, and they only way to fix it would be to replace the battery.
