iPhone: Getting to the top of a text conversation?

Is there a quick and easy way to get to the top of a text conversation on the iPhone? It takes a hella long time to get to the top just scrolling…

Like when you jump to the top in Safari: just touch the top, where the clock is.

To jump back to the bottom, touch the text entry field.

yeah just tap the top bar twice (the one with the time and stuff)

tapping the text entry didn't jump me back down, though.

Jumping back down by tapping the text entry field only works when your keyboard isn't already up. If your keyboard is displayed, hit "messages" and then go back into the conversation and hit the text field again. That's easier than scrolling all the way down.
