View Full Version : Powerbook G4 Superdrive Problem

Sep 5, 2008, 09:03 PM
I've got a 1.5Ghz, 80g hard drive Powerbook G4 with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-835E DVD/CD Superdrive.

When I'm inserting a disc into my Superdrive, it physically moves the right side of my keyboard up a little bit. Then, after a minute or two it makes a clicking sound and ejects my CD/DVD without reading it.

I am wondering if my Superdrive is going to need replacement or if there is something else that I can do to remedy the problem.

Thanks for the help!

That's like a four year old superdrive. It is dying.

Like the hard drives in our computers, they go bad with time and use.

Update your machine with a new super drive and a new hard drive at the same time.

I'd get the Matshita UJ 847 superdrive and the maxed PATA hd you can get, the 250gb Western Digital

just searching the forum for any details concerning the superdrive in the 12" Powerbook. I just bought one for a ridiculous low price, but the superdrive only reads the installdiscs, so ive got to replace it (and will replace the HDD as well).
But, can I put in any ATA drive that fits the physical properties (for example from a Macbook or Pro?) ?
I am not sure and I think the drives at ifixit are a little to expensive...
